I think that Prometheus has the same plot as Alien vs Predator (expeditioners go to a remote place in search of something new, with a second in command who is female, and then they find themsleves in trouble, people die, at the very end a new type of Alien is introduced) but is done infinitely better.

How?
In AVP the characters all have jobs which they do before being overwhelmed by experiences beyond their experience.
In Prometheus every character is an arsehole only the droid is following his programing.
As I say it looks good.

And yes Aliens is tatty (wrong aspect ratio, ugly titles, variable model effects, recycled score from other Horner movies, lousy rear projection) and lazy.
It’s by the numbers. Almost every lever of the plot either comes from the first film where it made sense (decompressing the Narcissus made sense because it was a small ship and Ripley is wearing a space suit, doing the same thing with the Sulaco would tear the ship to pieces and kill everyone in the landing bay) or it’s painfully cliche… Screaming child in peril…(yawn) look at how the Feral Kid turned that old chestnut on it’s head. Making Bishop a good droid deserves praise though.

This reminds me of some of the TFA criticism. You crazy.

Even if the structural integrity of the Sulcaco could be maintained and that Ripley’s foot/arm didn’t snap and all the air wasn’t pulled out of the lungs of the humans particularly Newt screaming at the top of her voice, there is the small detail of all that radiation coming out of the vent open to space.
They would all die of cancer.

First I type “Aliens” – making sure to italicize the title, of course – and follow it with a hyphen, a “C”, and then a period. Finally, for the coup de grace, I press the “POST YOUR REPLY” button at the bottom of the page, submitting the post and thus incorporating it into this cromulent thread.

Judging by his ratings of Alien 1 & 3 I’m assuming he prefers the horror elements of the Alien franchise instead of the sci-fi action seen in Aliens.

Not to mention the mystery in the original film. Is the xenomorph intelligent or an instinct-driven beast? Alien left that question open, but Aliens had to came along and make the xenomorphs giant termites – nothing more, nothing less. It cheapens the creature in my book.

Also, I hated most of the characters in Aliens; I wanted almost all the soldier characters dead as soon as they opened their mouths.

Remember that scene from that one movie called the Empire Strikes Back when the lead characters get off of the space ship on an asteroid and walk around with the cheap little masks that they give you when a plane cabin depressurizes, and there is no change of gravity whatsoever? That ruined the whole movie for me.

Alien was science fiction, Star Wars films are space fantasy. Even then they are inside an organic space (without realising just how organic), presumably Han checked the exterior conditions of the ship before exiting.
In Alien Ripley has the good sense to get in a space suit and put on the seat belt before opening the airlock.
Aliens is a fun action film but it’s really poor compared to the original. They are hardly in the same universe despite the sequel copying huge chunks without understanding why those segments made sense. It’s not as good as the first Terminator movie but much better than the second one.

Ranking Grade: Meh.

You need to put these in order.

So, I’m just gonna list by preference. (Unoffical cuts count along with certain video games? I own the UK Blu-ray disc Anthology set along with ALIEN: Isolation, ALIENS versus PREDATOR 2000, ALIENS versus PREDATOR 2 + Primal Hunt, and ALIENS versus PREDATOR 2010. All of them PC.)

ALIEN: Extended Edition (130+ minute runtime? Has same pacing as Theatrical Cut and is my go-to version.)
ALIEN: Theatrical Cut
ALIEN: “Director’s” Cut (More an assembly by FOX though.)

ALIENS: Special Edition (I think there’s a certain cut which retains the majority of scenes from the Special Edition but trims a couple.)
ALIENS: Theatrical Cut

ALIEN³: Special “Assembly” Cut (Especially the Blu-ray version which has the proper ADR for the majority of the characters which didn’t have them in the DVD version. This version has completely redeemed the movie to me.)
ALIEN³: Theatrical Cut (I don’t even watch this version anymore.)

ALIEN: Resurrection (Doesn’t matter which cut. Needed a different script and such. Maybe if FOX started to adapt the Dark Horse Comics mini-series. Maybe starting with ALIENS: Labyrinth and some others?)

PROMETHEUS (Yep I own the 3D Blu-ray release, especially for the exclusive bonus disc of extra features. Wondering if there’s a custom BD25 or whichever which adds certain deleted or extended scenes. Going to see what Rid does for ALIEN: Covenant.)

AVP and AVP: Requiem (I’ve no desire for owning either of them. FOX should’ve just adapted the Dark Horse Comics featuring Machiko Noguchi into a film. Also hoping for a premium channel ALIEn/ALIENS/PREDATOR/ALIENS vs. PREDATOR live-action anthology series.)

Games:

ALIENS versus PREDATOR 2 + Primal Hunt (Love this one the most. Hoping it’ll receive an enhanced remake. ONLY newer graphics since I have to modify the .ini file to run this 1080p. I play this one and 2010 the most.)
ALIENS versus PREDATOR: Gold Edition/2000
ALIENS versus PREDATOR: 2010

ALIENS: Colonial Marines (Never really played it. Only really wanting to since Michael Biehn is back as Corporal Dwayne Hicks, sorta similar to the ALIENS mini-series featuring Hicks and Newt in their first edition/printings, with Al Matthews as Sergeant Apone, and Lance Henriksen as another Bishop android.)

ALIEN: Isolation (VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Especially on a very nice self-built computer. Since all settings can be then set on maximum.)
Finally has me terrified of the Xenomorph again since I first watch ALIEN and ALIENS on Laserdisc or VHS back in the late 1980s. Absolutely love this game and gives the perfect interim for the period in-universe which ALIEN and ALIENS takes place. Obviously since Creative Assembly, HUGE fan of the TOTAL WAR Series and really hoping they’ll make another ALIEN game, had tons of design documents and more from 20th Century FOX. A movie licensed game done perfectly, IMO.
Come to think of it, I’d even love it if Creative Assembly even made the fourth ALIENS versus PREDATOR game. As long as it has the branching elaborate and very well written storyline featuring the three species which AVP 2 + Primal Hunt has.)

Then there’s ALIENS by Konami, ALIEN versus PREDATOR by Capcom for Arcade, ALIENS versus PREDATOR for Jaguar, ALIEN: Isolation for DS, ALIEN³ for multiple systems, ALIEN for older computers, ALIENS: The Comic Book Adventure, and more.

I didn’t really rank them but oh well.

That was the first Alien-related game that I really loved. I found it very enjoyable, despite being mostly about hiding and crawling around like a cockroach. The story is not bad as well. Overall, the game perfectly captures the feel of the original film.

ALIENS: Colonial Marines

Unlike Isolation, I was quite closely following the developed of this game. Near the final stages of developed I felt it went into wrong direction and I gave up. I have never played it myself as well. I guess I didn’t miss much as people say it is as crap as I predicted it to be, just another boring soulless FPS game.

I think crawling around and hiding like a cockroach is what made Isolation fun. It’s a neat and fitting to the original motion picture

Alien: F
Aliens: F
Alien3: C not great but I’m glad they didn’t release that awful Assembly Cut
Alien Resurrection: B It’s not too exciting but it’s smart science fiction
AvP - A- A huge step up from the earlier films in the series
AvP 2 - A+ What else needs to be said?

Prometheus - B

I got every Alien game on steam recently… Isolation was definitely the best. Alien games should really be survival horror. Colonial Marines wasn’t as bad as everyone said, but was kind of repetitive, with pretty bad graphics. Alien vs Predator Classic 2000 I haven’t played yet. Alien vs Predator 2010 was pretty good, especially Predator mode.
