I checked out a copy of Phantasm from my local library today. When the date to return it arrives, I think I’ll just keep the DVD and report it as lost. Hopefully the library won’t charge me an arm and a leg for it.

I do not see any point in your post. Just because some diet soda comes in caffeine free form does not mean that all caffeine free soda is diet. It’s really quite simple.
I drink caffeine free coke. It’s regular coke, with all the excessive sugar and calories of regular coke, it just simply doesn’t have caffeine. You with me?

What are some examples? I’m not real familiar with his soundtrack work except for Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure.

I’ll admit I don’t have either great examples or a great ear for soundtracks. A lot of it just sounds the same to me.

Mental JEDIT: IIRC there’s a piece on one of his Darkened Theater compilation albums that sounds exactly like Batman…Darkman, maybe.

Also, I do like Oingo Boingo quite a bit.
Ah, yeah. I was very happy back in 200(2?) that his Spider-Man soundtrack didn’t sound too much like Batman. Seemed to have a different feel.
I do think many of the soundtracks (during the films, I haven’t listened on their own) fall into the “Elfman sound” and sound samey. But I generally dig it.
I haven’t listened to enough Oingo Boingo. I should rectify that.
