Where were you in '77?

I never really cared much for MST3K. The Three Stooges were way funnier.
Blasphemy. I loved watching MST3K back in the 90s.
If Suicide Squad can win an Oscar, this deserves 10.
.
Oh yeah, I saw this a couple days ago. Great stuff.
JEDIT: The trailer that is, not the film.
Not enough people read the EU.
I didn’t read the full title, so I was taken aback when I saw Wiseau’s face.
I’m surprised that he has a career outside of The Room, nevermind that someone else wanted to direct for him (Is Gary Fong related to the creation of The Room? I can’t remember)
Something I’ve been wondering about. Back in the day, TV broadcasts of some films would have extra/alternate scenes in them not shown in either their theatrical or video releases. Are “TV edits” still a thing, or did they die with the popularization of DVD and BD?
A lot of those were done to fill out a timeslot, (when there were less commercials) or make a movie into a two night “event”. Cable tv and VHS eroded the novelty of watching a theatrical film on broadcast tv by the mid 80’s.
Movies on broadcast networks are a rare thing these days, and basic cable allows nearly everything short of the F word and full nudity now.
I think feature films still shoot alternate scenes for the “airline version”, since cursing and nudity are right out.

Feature film broadcasts were still a big thing on rare occasions in the 1990s on NBC.
Schindler’s List aired without commercial interruption in 1993(?) and it was a very big deal. Braveheart was another film that was heavily promo’d by NBC and ran at least once in primetime on a Sunday night, if not more.
I’m sure there were other films, but those are the two that stick out off the top of my head. Otherwise, films would get broadcast in dead time slots like Saturday night or something. Mini-series were already the network’s preferred movie avenue dating back to the 1980s.

I just saw Godfather 3 other day on AMC. It had an alternate beginning. The beginning showed scenes from the other 2 movies, sort of letting the viewer know what happened so far. I have the DVD and Blu ray of the movie, that is not the beginning of the movie on the discs. It also not the alternate beginning included withe the extras on the disc. Was this something AMC created or what? Anyone know anything about this?

So, no, essentially.
I don’t know why, but the bigger takeaway from that is that it was shot in Kelowna. I wonder if I’ll recognize any buildings there or not (probably not, it’s been a few years since my sister moved out of there so we haven’t had much reason to visit).

It was there on VHS, IIRC. It was possibly chopped from the DVD release because the buyer probably has the other two. Flashback openings were a regular thing before home video became popular. The Rocky series, for instance.
Was it part of the original theatrical release?
I’m not sure, but I would guess that it was. I haven’t looked into it at all though, so I could be wrong.
I am getting conflicting info I asked this same question on another site

and got this answer:
It was something AMC created. They’ve show that before
I am confused.
Ray said “IIRC”. He could be wrong. It could have also been created for a European release, like Search For Spock did.

Yeah, I really don’t know anything for sure.
After a quick look at the IMDb page, it says this:
The movie begins in 1979, with a brief flashback establishing the long and tragic history of criminal activity within, and by, the Corleone family.
I’ve only see Part 3 twice, so I don’t remember if there’s another flashback after the one that sums up the events of 1 & 2…
JEDIT: Just found this description on a youtube video of the flashback:
This alternate opening is not featured in any of the releases. It includes a montage of clips from the past two movies and a voice over by Al Pacino
Looks like it’s just on the AMC version, but was put together with Al’s VO when the film was originally made and it was decided to cut it.
Like I said, I’ve only seen Part 3 twice. Once on VHS, once years ago on AMC. That accounts for the confused memories.
It’s weird that AMC uses it though. They only show these movies as a marathon, so who needs the catching up? (I watched Parts 1 & 2 twice over the weekend, but skipped 3 both times)

Well that seems to clear it up. Thank you.
Could you please post a link for this youtube video?

I agree with you.
Yeah, here’s the video.

The Godfather Parts I and II are a couple of my favorite films, and the best films from the 1970s in my opinion, even ahead of Star Wars. Godfather 3 sucked though. Saw it once and will never watch it again.
Kinda like Star Wars, I consider the story over after the original films.
And I’m probably in the minority, but I think The Godfather Part II is actually better than the original.

I’ve heard plenty of people say that.
My lady friend is a big fan of 1 & 2 and considers 2 to be the best.
I’m a casual fan and kinda rank the two together I guess.
