I named one of my black cats "Ligeia" after watching The Tomb of Ligeia.

I think all cats everywhere should be named "Jimmy Lee".

When I was a very small boy I remember we briefly had a large Grundig colour television.

I remember it went away and we were told that a valve had broken and it was too expensive to fix so we went back to a black and white television.

I also remembered my father stopped being a bricklayer and spent a lot of time away looking for work.

Around Christmas I found out the truth behind that story.

My father had a black and white license when we had the colour television, he didn't pay the fine and because of this he (a father of two small children) spent six months in prison.

It was something he never talked about and something that restricted his ability to get other work. As much as I want the BBC to survive the current run of attacks from the current government I must confess to being pleased this looks like being stopped finally.

Six months in prison for the wrong tv license!! That's horrible!

I think it was the non payment of the fine.

Judges have sent down single mothers with children for the same offense.

Just discovered my dad has an HD 1080P television with a 4:3 screen aspect. I did not know this even existed!

On a similar note, does anybody know if there exists a SD television with a 16:9 aspect?  I ask because that would be ideal for playing nintendo wii games, because wii games are 16:9 (or can be) but the wii is not HD and on my HDTV, well it doesn't look so hot.

As a matter of fact, nintendo 64 games played in HD (with an emulator) look better on my TV than wii games do.  That's just sad.

Sure there are, but having another 16:9 CRT SDTV just for the Wii seems a bit overboard. It would NOT look better, probably even worse. Wii games look terrible when blown up, even when running through the Wii U.

You're probably right.  I just really hate that my n64 games now look better than my wii games!  Although I have noticed that on a tv screen of say 37 inches wii games do look much better on crt television than hd televisions of the same size, less jaggys.

If I could only get Dolphin to run at full speed... I've got a quad core computer that's less than 6 months old, I don't see why it won't.  Then again I know next to nothing about computer specs.

(Dolphin is a wii/gc emulator that has the ability to run the games at *true* hd, by rendering the actual individual graphics in hd the way a N64 emulator does, instead of just stretching the overall image like the wii U does.   It looks AMAZING, but it runs slow)

It's a line from the Cranberries song "Electric Blue", one of my favourite songs from the band. I chose it because I feel it reflects my current theological state very well.

Icehouse and Playboy did it first.

HD standards took a while to be agreed on. One reason there were 720P sets and broadcasts.

I saw 16:9 sets as far back as 1993 or 1994. They were mostly rear screen projection sets. Toshiba had a model or two that actually came with a anamorphic Laserdisc.

I know the Korean Avatar VHS is real, but what about Frozen?

At least one indie video horror label has put out a couple tapes bundled with their DVD's the past few years.

For a third of the year yes... the other 3 thirds it tastes like crap ;-)

VIZ TOP TIPS! - PARENTS. Impress your children by showing them a floppy disk and telling them it’s a 3D model of a save icon.

Store-bought strawberries aren't worth the money (at least by the time they get to Canada). But freshly picked strawberries...
