Big smile. Thats how we learn from you JD. I was lead to believe this was early concept art. But alas, you do really know your stuff, and that helps me to believe you were the chosen one for this project. Looking forward to your revelations with this project.

Sojourn, dont mean to be a bugger or anything but i cant honestly remember where my sources came from, its mainly a collabiration of my time here at the OTforums as well as a couple of custom cover sites. Dig and save until something comes up thats worthy of your time and talent then share (thats what i'm doing at least). This community usually will stear you in the right direction.

Thanks for the info. Is it legal to make covers based on just saving images one finds? Or is there another way that people get a hold of them that makes them better/more legal for making covers?

Take care,
Sojourn

Darth Solo,

Fantastic covers, love them.

Just wanted to point out in case anyone missed it but the Building Empire cover has Luke with a green lightsaber. I'm sure you can sort that out no problem, if not it still looks great.

Looking forward to their release, thanks for sharing.

That is also sweeeet.
I hope that one's available for download sometime!

Damn, so many covers, hard to decide which to use!

Another that I really like. Tho I'd prefer it with no THX advertising taking up space on the front cover.

Can you post that for download?

I like. Maybe go wider on Fett, revealing more of the background if possible. The text color is a little soft against the blue sky-- what about Fett kneepad gold, or gauntlet red?

what about Fett kneepad gold, or gauntlet red?

It would seem contradictory for a film that is all about showing what was, to synthetically show what was not

Eh!? Doesn't Boba has two yellow knee pads?

Delicieuxz, I will post all the covers as soon as the project is complete.

By the way folks, I often update the first page of this thread with progress reports and additions to the FAQ.

This morning at 10am I posted my final version of 'RTJ' to my top QC guy (you know who you are), who was a great help on 'BE'. I really need a set of fresh eyes to look at it after nearly a year of working on it (on and off).

Sorry to the rest of you but I couldn't afford to make several copies of the dual layer disc for QC.

As soon as he's got back to me with any suggestions or corrections I will be burning the final disc and hopefully someone could help me make it available for torrenting and posting on the newsgroup.

Thanks

Sweet. Whoever that QC guy is I hope he gets his copy and gets back to you ASAP. I can't wait to get this. I think I'm going to watch Building Empire again tomorrow in anticipation.

Jambe, there was one very, very minor issue with Building Empire that, if applicable, I would suggest you do differently in RtJ. At points where you put "scrolling" subtitles under footage from the DVD, the subtitles suffered from interlacing artefacts, because they were done as field based, rather than frame based to match the DVD footage.

Not a big issue at all, but I'm just thinking of possible complications for those who may want to do an NTSC conversion in the future.

He said he will get back to me by the weekend.

Thanks for the advice Moth3r, I will see what I can do. Any help would be appreciated.

I suppose it depends on where the majority of the footage is sourced from. If it's mostly from the DVD, my preference would be to deinterlace any field-based footage (from TV broadcasts, video camera, etc.) and encode the whole thing as progressive.

Well I ended up deinterlacing the whole thing when transcoding to MPEG-2 because some of the filters I was using didn't seem to work too well when transcoded from DV to MPEG-2 (I posted about it a while back).

Now that is a great cover. The previous one looked a bit like it could be an alternative cover for the original Jedi film.

This new one gives it that behind-the-scenes feel, without needing to say it.

Great stuff.

Jambe Davdar, you mentioned the QC discs being dual layered, are there any plans for a single layer DVD-R? I don't have the ability to burn a dual layered DVD-R, I can only do single layer.

I've have been talking about this to other members on the last few pages of this thread. Some have concerns that the release would be SL and compromise on quality. Others are worried that they won't be able to make DL copies.

What I am going to do is release a DL version to the key players and if any of you want to use DVDshrink or DVD2one, you can do so.

Thanks
