Prism's Sequel Trilogy

Anybody seen these yet. Sure, it’s all AI generated and he used Mark Hamill’s voice to narrate as well. It’s amazing and well put together!

Here’s Episode VII…

I’ve seen the treatments of Eps 7 and 8, and a small part of 9. I also watched his youtube video outlining the footprint he’d follow for future projects, sagas vs. odysseys, etc. All very well thought out.

So far, I think his treatment of the ST has been excellent. The old and new characters blend and work together seamlessly, everyone has an actual story-arc, there are some interesting interpersonal relationships, and there is a coherent 3-episode plot. It’s the first treatment of the sequels I’ve seen that actually stands as a potential rival to Zahn’s work, and the beauty of it is that it happens so far in the future, that it could easily flow AFTER Zahn’s work, making episodes 10,11, and 12. The only hang-up would be reconciling Leia’s pregnancy with twins versus Ben as an only child.

Anyway, short version is that it’s good stuff and I’ve been enjoying it.

The interesting thing with projects like this is that at some point in the future, AI will enable people to actually generate either 3d-cgi or animated visuals to go along with the stories. That’ll put fan-fiction / fan-editing into a whole new realm.

I liked these a lot when I watched them. My main issue is that they would be too dense to make into real movies. There are just too many characters and scenes. They would work better as novels, but then you would lose things like the cast and the novelty of Keanu Reeves showing up.

The one thing I wasn’t sure I liked was the use of the Star Forge and other KOTOR references, but I will admit that Keanu as Darth Revan is definitely the way to go, if you’re going to go that way.

It was a pretty dense storyline, but given that these web episodes were all less than an hour, I think that it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to make them into a few 2.5 hour movies. Of course, I don’t make movies for a living so I dunno.

Yup, this is pretty much exactly what made me drop all this.

The thing about the episodic Star Wars movies is that they never rely on characters or events that originate only from books, games, or certain shows. They need to be able to stand on their own. The closest we’ve ever got to this not being the case was Ahsoka’s voice in TROS. Notice how you don’t need to know who she is in order to understand what’s going on. A cheeky reference here or there is fine. But, if anything, it’s always these mainline movies that trample over the “lesser” canon.

I watched these and thoroughly enjoyed them. This is canon for me. Yes, ep 9 got a little wacky, but it was so much better than the dumpster fire Disney gave us. If this was the story in the movies I would’ve gone to the theater 10 times for each one. After seeing Jake Skywalker I certainly wasn’t going to pay to see rise of garbage in the theater.

I’m less bothered by referencing KOTOR given that the entire setup of both this version and the actual sequel trilogy ended up being a different version of Dark Empire. If anything I don’t like that it references The Old Republic MMO and the goofy idea of Revan’s soul splitting in two halves.

Watched them very recently and was impressed. My only complaint about the AI images generated is that they didn’t utilize star wars creatures and aliens in the background to make it feel more like the real thing. I don’t know how AI works so maybe that would have been asking too much of it at this point. It’s only a matter of time before fans use this technology to create video sequences that look like they’re from a $200 million franchise film.
