Princess Leia's Hologram

Hello everyone.  I'm relatively new, and joined primarily to thank Adywan for his great work on "Revisited," but I've recently been reading up about a lot of other popular threads on these forums.  I'm especially interested in a lot of the Star Wars preservation material.  I had no idea about the Save Star Wars site or any of the original footage being replaced by the SE.  Doubleoffive's slides of the screen comparisons were especially interesting!

But that led me to notice something.  I grew up with VHS tapes of the original movies.  The ones with the Vader/Stormtrooper/Yoda faces on the cover (And they also had an interview with George Lucas before each movie).  And then the Special Editions came out when I was in 5th grade.  I was confused by some of the changes, but really loved the movies for the most part.  So I bought the DVDs as soon as they were released and, for all those years, the DVD versions had become my definitive editions.  That's probably why I love Adywan's version so much.  It takes out the confusing elements but keeps the really good ones.

But now that I have been looking back at all of the screen comparisons, I noticed that Princess Leia's hologram seems to look a LOT better in the original version.  It's not all blue with a high contrast.  It looks more like what I would imagine a light projection to look like.  So that leads me to my question... does anyone know where I can find a high quality version of the hologram scene as it appeared in the original movie?  I am actually surprised that Adywan didn't revert the colors back to the original.  But I suppose it was to keep continuity between holograms of ESB and ROTJ too.

I know this was a long post to ask such a small question, but I just wanted to give you guys major kudos for putting in your time and dedication to let people know about the true history of the films.  Although I don't see myself preferring them over the SEs anytime soon, it's definitely fascinating to see all of the previous versions that Star Wars went through.

My comps are upscaled GOUT, so it wouldn't look much better than this. My problem is that when they put the scanlines back on, they put them going the wrong direction, making this the ONLY time that the scanlines are vertical in ANY hologram in the entire saga, including The Clone Wars!

Yeah, I love those colors in the first picture!  And I never noticed the scan lines, 005.  I'll have to look out for that!

Those thin vertical scanlines you see in the SE are probably present in the original hologram as well, you just don't see them because of the bad resolution, they just omitted the horizontal bars. Have not studied it, but that's my thought on it.

That's not true, remember that there is vertical ones on the officers in Empire that I've pointed out in your thread. Both in SE and Original.

We want you to be aware that we have no plans—now or in the future—to restore the earlier versions.
