I was also thinking about our agreement, about the OOT going onto the Blu-Ray format.

And if this Blu-Ray format DOES work out I want to transmit my OOT to the format THIS YEAR.

George Lucas: I'm sorry you fell in love with a half-completed film.

Yeah... that's what you said when the Special Editions came out. Looks like the OOT is going nowhere. I have to finish restoring the OOT.

Ahhh, smell the negativity. :p

negativity or just being realistic?

Yes, I had thought of that, but I stand by what I said. I consider myself a realist, but there are so many defeatist sentiments in this thread after only a few pages that I wonder how Jay must feel reading them all. Reading 'this is pointless, but whatever' over and over must get annoying.

I didn't say the the petition was pointless, and I certainly don't think is.  I signed the petition.  I am absolutely for the petition and getting the OOT on bluray.    I don't think its likely to happen, but I still think we should send Lucas a message.    I am also for college having a playoff system(read my thread on it) and for me finding a girlfriend.  I just don't any of those is likely.  But, I'd be very glad to be proven wrong.

This is pretty much all we can do, and the real reason for this site's existence. What's to lose? If the first petition led to the GOUT, maybe similar results will follow....(waves hand in front of Lucasfilm website...while rereading the rumor mill on the Digital Bits for the umpteenth time salivating over the thought of a real OOT Blu-ray.)

This petition is a great idea and excellently worded.  I added a comment to my signature about staying true to the original colour timing and including all the sound mixes (70mm especially, with its superior dynamics and so forth).

Don't mean to be negative, but some of the comments on the petition really aren't very helpful and kind of undermine its usefulness.  One asks for the original version where Vader doesn't straighten out his TIE fighter at the end.  Huh?  Clearly faulty memory syndrome is at work here.  Others are pushing the boundary between what could be considered respectful and what is insulting (and would make them that much less likely to take it seriously).  Not that they'll get looked at very closely by LFL anyway, but still . . .

I started another thread for my ideas for a possible Petition Support Video.  I can't do this stuff alone, I'm trying to inspire people to use my ideas for banners or videos and run with them.

Hey Jay-

I just signed the petition, but had some trouble, because the comments' length limit is just 1000 chars. This is not made clear on the main page, and instead the software kept crashing on me; after I actually decided to use my brain and read the error, I figured it out and cut out some verbiage. But you really should tell ppl that there's a 1000-char limit on comments on the main page, and then do some kinda nice-lookin' try-catch thing if ppl go over the limit.

cheers,

-e

Missed that one somehow. I added an error message to catch that. Thanks.

Are any of you guys actually gonna buy the blu-ray if it doesn't have the remastered OOT in it?

Fooled me once with dvd, shame on you Lucas. Fool me with the next format, shame on me. That's the problem here. Lucas thinks that "Star Wars in 1080p!" will be enough for even the biggest hater to go out and buy it. The sad thing is that he might be right. Guys, the big message we need to send is all the potential money LFL will be losing if they don't include the OOT. They're gonna have to include an entire additional 50 gig disc with each movie in order to give us what we want anyway. Sure, I'd be thrilled if they gave each movie anything remotely approaching the Blade Runner / CE3K treatment, but this is Star Wars and it has become a mere product after all these years. They put out a four-disc set, charged $70 for it, and made the highest single-day sales in the history of the dvd format.

Blu-ray is a different story. For one thing, we have to wait and see what the deal is with the 3D conversion. I'm really starting to think it won't happen, if only because I just don't get how they're going to re-release SIX MOVIES in theaters and still make a profit after such an expensive conversion process. The industry just standardized 3D blu-ray though, so maybe we haven't heard the last of all this.

We also have to remember that the live-action show will be hitting around the same time and Lucas still doesn't have a distributor for it. I can't help but wonder how 20th Century Fox's distribution rights to the six-film saga is gonna play into all this.

I don't know when the old petition got started, before '04 or after, but this time around we're getting it out there well before the initial blu-ray is hitting (Bill Hunt puts it at 2011 at the earliest). This gives us time to get more signatures.

I hope they would just release the OT.  I don't want people who've never seen SW before, to go see TPM and think SW is stupid.

I'd put out a re-mastered OT.  No big changes, just visual enhancements, and worry about the PT when Ady gets around to it.

WOW , i go on holiday for a few weeks and i come back to a new looking site with a petition for Star Wars on blu ray. I still have $65 dollars from my holidays i havent changed back into ££££'s yet , i dont mind throwing that into the petition although i dont think we should offer George the whole $65 at first . Maybe $40 at first then the $65 ?

 Think it may help ?

The only way I would buy a set without a restored OT is if there was at least an anamorphic transfer better than the GOUT and/or the actual 97SE.

An OT theatrical rerelease would be mind boggling. I probably woldn't leave the theater until the run ended.

I got into an argument with someone about the petition in another forum,  tht person gave me a suggestion what he thought we should do instead the petition.    Now, I don't think we should do it instead of the petition, but what do this in addition to the petition: buying stock in Lucasfilm.    I'm not even sure if this is possible to do, but I think its worth looking into.   At  the very least, we could use it as a way to refute all those that try to say we have no say in what version gets released.   If we had stock, we'd be part owners, that would certainly give us a say.   I realize we wouldn't able to buy much.  But I think even owning little my help our arguments.  What does everyone think?

yeah,  I'm fighting a one man battle in my over there right now.   I'm amazed at myself that I've been able to keep it so civil.    I've defended my position without resorting to name calling or personal attacks.  I think I've finally started to be able to control my temper.

Over 70,000. The first 10,000 or so came very quickly because lots of major sites were promoting the petition actively.

crap, that actually disheartens me a bit. It'll take a lot to exceed those numbers.

There is no such thing as an anamorphic blu-ray and there would be really no point to do a whole new transfer and restoration and then just release it on DVD. I'm hoping for something akin to the Blade Runner and Close Encounter's releases, with all 3 cuts (plus the final cut or whatever) via seamless branching.

Wait, why is there no such thing as anamorphic blu-ray? What happens then with 4:3 standard video on blu-ray. Ever since hearing about the 25/50 gb capacity back in early '06, I have dreamed of having that much space to work with for dubs of my standard definition 4:3 Hi8 and vhs tapes. They could be probably made with no digital compression whatsoever, right?

About the petition. I'm guessing a lot of thought went into making it clear and straighforward without becoming wordy and long. Thanks for making a new one. Was it ever considered to include more requests such as the inclusion of the 1997 special editions and the different audio mixes, the old specials like Star Wars to Jedi? Not to mention having the films with the proper coloring. Or would that have made the petition too long and detract from the big goal of having the originals in a 16x9 widescreen presentation?
