Peter Mayhew Tweeting Star Wars "Journal of the Whills" script. "Big announcement" to follow... — Page 3

Nice detective work. I’m thinking Mayhew’s on both Episode VIII - and maybe a new documentary to tie-in with the '77 anniversary? I dunno why but his use of “special assignment” on his site suggests that to me. In my wildest dreams, such a documentary is purpose-built for an official OUT release…

Well, it does also say “mock surprise” when describing Jabba, so I’m not sure if Greedo was actually meant to have been ordered to not shoot Han.
Not that it really matters though, Han still shot down Greedo just to be on the safe side, as is implied in the line “I think he thought he was” (suggesting that he thought that Greedo was planning to shot him anyway).

Okay, I swear I am JUST learning about this Montross guy! How long has everyone here known about him!?!?!

EDIT: Haha! It is new! This isn’t in the Starkiller version! Thank you, Mr. Mayhew!!!

I’m just here because I’m driving tonight.

Was Montross in the Marvel comic? When I hear that name the first place my mind goes to is the Bounty Hunter GameCube game, but I know it predates that by quite a while.

Nope! Not in the comic, not in the radio drama, not in the novelization… It’s completely new!

Montross sounds cool. Like joefavs, I definitely went to Open Seasons and the Bounty Hunter game in my head when I first imagined him.

Keep Circulating the Tapes.

I think if they were to release the OOT, it would be in some kind of double disc set with one disc for the original version and another disc for the 2011 version, which I’m ok with. Somehow I doubt they will release the OOT completely on its own though. I just wish lucasfilm would put out some kind of collector set with every version, but I know that probably won’t happen unfortunately, which is why I’m creating my own haha.

I do agree that summer 2017 would be nearly the perfect time to do some kind of theatrical release of the OOT. The only thing that makes me think they may not do it is that they have through Marvel, Guardians of the Galaxy 2 coming out in May and Spider Man coming in July. I think they would be hesitant to release another major film in late May, even if it is a re-release of sorts, as they would not want to be competing with themselves like that. Even if they don’t do a theatrical run of it, I don’t think that will interfere with them doing a bluray release.

I think before/alongside Rogue One would be the perfect time. A re-release won’t steal any of RO’s thunder, but it could perhaps draw some skeptical older fans into the theaters. In particular, a RO/STAR WARS marathon could be awesome.

The problem with that is that they would have had to be working on a restoration for some time now in order to have it ready on time, which is certainly a possibility. But if they decide to use mike vertas restoration, they still could, but it means they’d probably pair it with subpar restorations of empire and Jedi. I doubt they’d release SW in any way other than alongside the rest of the trilogy. Unless they’re planning to do one a year.

Even sub-par restorations of Empire and Jedi are better than what we have and would even be mildly acceptable.

I’ve wondered if this Verta stuff has something to do particularly with Star Wars. Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t Star Wars worse for wear, even relative to the other two? Maybe they already have restorations of Empire and Jedi and are unhappy with what they have for SW given the source material and talent available to them.

The last time there was due to be another version of Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi was the 3D re-releases. This was most likely the scans done by reliance media works. But don’t hold me to that but I’ll admit that is my best guess on what those were for.

This was not entirely a bad idea to try and stick them in the cinema and in 3D (note the past tense).

But there are many reasons why The Original Star Wars Trilogy and even the Special Editions will not covert to 3D even though they will partially extremely well. Can you imagine trying to convert other films from the 70’s and 80’s in to 3D? Basically it’s a put your glasses on / take your glasses off scenario. The last time those types of 3D films Ran was way back in the late 80’s or early 90’s.

All in all, the 3D versions has either been canceled or the OT has been silently and secretly re-vamped to a fully fledged 3D experience on par with 3D releases today… I would imagine it was canceled.

So how do you keep flogging the Special Edition?

The Simple answer in short is you can not unless you keep making updated special editions.

Could Peter have been counting down to the Rogue One trailer? He’d have finished around now if he hadn’t stopped a couple weeks ago.

Oh, I didn’t realize he’d started again. Well cool, the mystery remains.

Woah yeah this is the first I heard of this change. I wonder what ESB and ROTJ would have been like. Would we even have force ghosts? If not, how would Lucas have found a way to stick Hayden in the OT?

Sounds like a fan edit is needed to make this happen 😃.

Yoda pretty much came about because Lucas needed a new Jedi master. If he ever considered ghost Ben training Luke, I’ve not read anything about it. Sir Alec was having health issues during production on ESB that put shooting his brief scenes in doubt for a while though.

Well didn’t Ben’s death come about because Alec Guiness didn’t want a big role and commitment to the rest of the franchise? In that case force ghost Ben as teacher would have defeated that purpose.
