PG-13 Revenge of the Sith

George Lucas stated recently in an interview that Revenge of the Sith will contain more violence then any other Star Wars movie and he said it might not be able to make PG. Post your thoughts on this.

I'm hoping for a PG-13 rating....the more action the better.

I'm definitely cool with a PG-13. Give it some edge, Georgie.

I have always been for Episode 3 getting PG-13. For the simple fact that its suppose to be darker and edgier then any other movie. I feel a PG rating would diminish this somewhat. Attack of the Clones already had quite a bit of dismemberment and intense scenes that was the maximum its rating could handle. If Revenge of the Sith wants to beat it a PG-13 rating is almost required. This is the first word from Lucas of a PG-13 rating. Considering how badly Anakin will have to get messed up and how many Jedi die I say go PG-13.

Serioulsy. The more violent the better. Think Lord of the Rings.

If this is supposed to be the Darkest of the six, then let us know.

Rating movies on how dark they are. Darkest on top

The Empire Strikes Back
Attack of the Clones
A New Hope
Return of the Jedi
The Phantom Menace

He stated he made The Phantom Menace as happy and bright as possible because Attack of the Clones is much darker and Revenge of the Sith won't be happy at all.

I think Menace is darker than Jedi.

No main characters are killed in Jedi, but the Emperor, and Menace is the beginning of the end for the Old Republic.
But Jedi is the beginning of a New Republic.

Which doesn't even last .5% of the time the old one did, but that's a story for another mellinium, and medium...

I can't say a PG 13 rating bodes well for this movie. I was always hoping that eventualy the PT would capture the magic of the original, but more violence and a PG 13 rating seem to indicate otherwise. Becides aren't these movies supposed to be for kids as well? A movie rated PG 13 is not for kids.

Yes, there are some PG-13 movies that are not for kids......but I've seen a lot of parents take young children to PG-13 movies...they seem to do ok. If Episode 3 is rated PG, I hope we can at least get a PG-13 version sometime down the road.

I really don't care about the rating of the movie... After seeing Episode 1 and 2, I'm not expecting all that much out of episode 3 anyway.

Seconded.

True I guess but light hearted Jar Jar is present through the whole film while the ewoks don't appear till the second half of Return of the Jedi. Both movies are the two most pridictable and kid friendly of the films which is why they are the two worst. Revenge of the Sith will be the darkest, saddest, most action packed, and most violent Star Wars movie ever. It really has everything most people want from science fiction. A low brow death flick where the bad guys win. Id be surprised if it wasn't the best of the Star Wars movies.

Heres a link to information on the PG-13 rating. George apparently said that a PG rating would limit the story.

There was a good point made at AICN (for once) that when George signed the licensing agreements for the PT before TPM came out, it was agreed that all of the films would be PG so as not to limit the audience. Apparently, he had to pull some strings to get AOTC a PG. Can he do it again, what with "Crispy Anakin" and all? I wonder...

Yeah, but do you really think that if Lucas does make it PG-13 that his "licensing agreement" will actually mean that the film won't be released? I doubt it. Lucas says it's gonna be PG-13, it's gonna be PG-13. Regardless of what FOX, the MPAA, or anyone else says. If he simply tells people that FOX won't let him release his film because it's a measley PG-13, the critical and popular backlash against FOX would be devastating. They can't afford that kind of bad press. Agreement be damned, what Lucas says, (sometimes unfortunately) goes.

I doubt that a pg-13 rating is going to harm the films box office, considering the damage that dumbing it down for the kids did to Phantom Menace and to the second film, it's about time that George gave the audience that have been with the films from the beginning, a fitting finale.

Well, ratings are quite subjective and meaningless. Lucas can make whatever he wants and pay off whoever he needs to to get a PG, if a PG is that important to him. I don't get why people think just because a movie is rated higher by the MPAA, it will be a better movie. Just because it's more violent doesn't make it better.

Can't him film a PG-13, or even something close to R, and still get a PG? I mean, he's George Lucas, bad filmaker or not, he has GOT to know some people that can work it out for him...

I still wish to see a NC-17 Star Wars movie, based only on violence, with no foul language or sex.

Normally true but as movies like Alien versus Predator show sometimes it does. Revenge of the Sith is a tragity where almost everyone dies and the Republic falls. So yes a PG rating could hurt this movie. A PG-13 movie is almost nessessary.

No, you're equating violence with tragedy. It is not that Anakin kills people that makes the moviie a tragedy, but that he chose to follow a path that would eventually end in the deaths and destruction of those he held dear.
