I would donate to help the team get this if that would help !

It was filmed in my neck of the woods and holds a special place in my heart.

I get nostalgia watching the opening titles, with the shots of the old school subway map, before they became ‘anatomically accurate.’

“That’s impossible, even for a computer!”

“You don't do ‘Star Wars’ in Dobly.”

Agreed. That was such a part of my childhood and life ... it really brings back memories.

So does anyone have any ideas for extras for Private School? I am thinking this is going to be pretty bare like FN2.

DJ, the DVD has nothing in the way of extras... I don't even remember seeing much BTS promotional stuff or press kit material regarding the film from way back.  I was always recording stuff on a vcr back then when Entertainment Tonight would do set visits and interviews.  I distinctly remember seeing an amazing set visit to The Terminator during filming at Tech Noir... they even showed footage of the cameraman filming Arnold as he entered the club.  Amazing stuff.  But I never saw anything for Private School and I watched that damn show every day.  This one may have to be a basic presentation.  The HDTV broadcast looks great though so it's well worth it.  I'm amazed this one made the list because it's a personal fav of the teen sex comedies of the '80s.  They don't make flicks like that anymore.  Goofy but fun and the women were incredible.

Does anyone have the 1080i file for "Don't Tell Mom The Babysitter's Dead"?  I'm working on a release of my own but only have the 720p file.  If anyone is interested in helping with this release, please let me know

Thanks, this is what I thought, well Private School and The Wild Life are probably going to be the most bare releases we have ever done, there won't even be LD audio included, both LD's are kind of expensive and I do not think either has digital PCM anyways, but we keep looking anyways, AvP is going to provide us with his HD remastering of the Private School trailer, so a big thanks to him for that.

Looking forward to both Private School and The Wild Life.  The Cinemax HD presentation of The Wild Life also has great video and audio but the file that was floating around Usenet seemed to be missing frames here and there.  Maybe it was just a problem on my side, but at any rate that film is a rare find and it would be incredible to have a the HDTV broadcast intact.  I noticed the new DVD has song replacement.

I see a lot of collaborations for these fan projects and believe yours to be among the most popular so I was posting this here to see if you or anyone you know of or work on these projects with had anything to contribute to this project.  That's all.  Thanks for letting me know, though

I have created a new thread for this project, as well as another WIP project.  Cover Art for both has also been created.  Please take a look and if you or anyone else would like to contribute, that would be wonderful.

OK we now have everything we need to get The Neverending Story project going, we have these versions, US, Dutch, German and Japan, and a kind member has just PM'd me and is going to provide a bit accurate LD rip from the Japanese LD, so just as soon as we get done with our little vacation we will try and hammer this one out and maybe a couple others before You_Too and I start our very long trek down the ESB trail lol.

So does anyone know if there is 1 audio track better then the others for the TNS BD's? or are all the DTS-HD MA 5.1 tracks pretty much the same?

Thanks

The audio on the US BD is crap, they turned the bass way up so that it overwhelms all other sounds.  I had to turn off my subwoofer to watch it.

The audio on the Dutch BD is regular DTS and Dolby Digital only, but it sounds serviceable.  Not sure about the international theatrical cut in the JP BD set, I still need to watch it. But I assume the it's the same as the US BD since the JP set is also from Warner. At this point I'd probably just want to watch it with the Dolby Surround from the LD anyway.

There's some discussion of the Dutch BD here: http://www.avsforum.com/t/1234653/die-unendliche-geschichte-aka-the-neverending-story-comparison-pix

Thank you for this info, is the LFE the only thing wrong? if so this can be fixed, but as much as I really like HD audio if it sucks then it sucks, I will not use it, but as I said if the LFE is the only problem this is an easy fix.

Thanks again

The TNES JP LDs are 1.85:1, interestingly. Are they cropped or less-matted?

Also, DJ: Do you need anything from any of the other LDs?

A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.

I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

What else is there? not real familiar with the LD's for this movie, I do not have any.

also does anyone have the LD's for Private School or The Wild Life?

Any LDs of Neverending Story in 1.85:1 are cropped. The film was shot in Technovision, which was a Panavision clone, so the original AR is 2.35:1-2.40:1.

I figured, but it seemed odd enough to ask about.

I'm not sure; just seeing if I can help out in some way.

The DTS-MA might be OK without the LFE, I seem to remember a lot of overpowering bass even with my subwoofer off though.  But I haven't watched the US BD since it came out and I'm not the best judge of sound mix quality, so you might want to get a more knowledgeable opinion.

It doesn't look like there were any LDs with digital audio for either film, they were analog only.  Are the VHS tapes Hi-Fi?  Those might be better.

A quick perusal of Ebay reveals TWL was Hi-Fi on VHS, but has the dreaded "home video version" on the back, which used to mean some music on the soundtrack may have been replaced.

Private School only seems to have Dolby NR visible on the labels. (MCA Home Video) There is a later version with the MCA/Universal home video logo on the box that would be more likely to have Hi-Fi tracks.

Anything reissued on the Goodtimes video labels should be avoided. (Universal farmed out a lot of bargain bin titles to them.) The tapes I got from them usually were recorded in the six hour SLP speed, and had poor tracking and usually no Hi-Fi.

Beta Hi-Fi tapes would be in a lot better shape at this point, if copies could be found.

Looks like both the LD and VHS for Private School are mono only in Japan.

The Wild Life VHS in Japan is marked as Hi-Fi with Dolby Surround logos, and Van Halen is credited for the music.  Does that mean it's the original theatrical music?
