At the Cannes Film Festival for a screening Sunday of “Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith,” his last chapter in the saga, Lucas said he pays no heed to the bad reviews that greeted the current trilogy’s two predecessors, “The Phantom Menace” and “Attack of the Clones.”

“We have two fan bases. One is over 25 and one is under 25,” Lucas said. "The over-25 fan base is loyal to the first three films. They actually are in their 30s and 40s now, so they’re in control of the media, they’re in control of the Web, they’re in control of everything, basically. So mostly, what you’re hearing from are people over 25 years old.

“But the films those people don’t like, which is the first two, actually are very fanatically adored by the under-25-year-olds, and as you get up on the Web and you listen to these conversations, they are always at each other’s throats, and the devotion for each group is pretty equal.”

Lucas compared the debate to older rock fans talking up the Rolling Stones and the Beatles, while younger fans worship hip-hop.

“I’m curious to see what happens in about 10 years when that other group starts to get their voice. How they’ll remember it. I hope they remember it as one movie,” he said.

I saw the original theatrical release of the Old Trilogy on the big screen and I'm proud of it...
How did I accomplish that (considering my age) is my secret...

Lucas just can't stop spouting crap, can he? His take on the fanbases is about as annoying as his claims that he'll leave Lucasfilm and go do a bunch of low budget indie flicks. The man will NOT leave Lucasfilm and he will NEVER make those indie flicks. All he's gonna do is board himself up in his ranch and think of new ways to get money out of Star Wars by whatever means are at his disposal.
I'd like a qui-gon jinn please with an Obi-Wan to go.

Red heads ROCK. Blondes do not rock. Nuff said.

You know what really pissed me off? The fact that with this false demographic study, he stopped Lucasarts from producing new adventure games (such as the new Full Throttle and the new Sam and Max, which were almost complete) to focus ONLY in Star Wars prequel-related games. WTF?!
“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” — Nazi Reich Marshal Hermann Goering

maybe he should focuses on making good SW games instead of a SW game every month!

I still like playing X-wing (though I've not played any real computer games in over a year. )

Considering that this forum has a pretty wellknown bias, I'd say this isn't really a fair poll. As for me, I voted under 25, prefer OT. I like the PT, but not on equal terms.

Made for IE Forum's Episode III theme month - May 2005.

George has his bias, and we have ours.

There are parts of the PT I like, but not enough to sit and watch the entire films. (Then again, there are parts of ROTJ that I fast-forward through. )

0n NPR this morning there was a Fox exectuive who mentioned that whenever he offered comments about the prequels, Lucas clammed up and refused to talk. He compared Lucas and the entire Lucasfilm empire to Charles Foster Kane and Xanadu. Someone else mentioned an analogy to Howard Hughes as we saw him in the Aviator (the mad god with all the $$ whom no one can persuade otherwise.)

I've made my life simple by not owning either Episode I or II. Not do I own the SE or the DVD editons of the OT. It's the TR47 editions or nothing!

Did they mention anything about Mormon blood?

Well, then we need someone to post such poll on TheForce.Net's Jedi Council Forums

yep and then there are all those fans out there that have lives and dont post on SW forums, i et alot of them like the PT too.

I like the Trilogies the same for different reasons. The prequels have better individual stories and better action...

But the OT has (infinitely) better characters, cooler ship designs and less retarded crap like Epui farts and lame "Beside myself" puns.

Well, my 3-year old seems to prefer the OT. He refers to all the Star Wars films as "Green Man" - I suppose it's because Yoda has made an impression on him. Given a choice as to whether he wants to watch "Green man with boy in" (Ep. I) or "Green man with Luke in" (Ep. IV) he will always choose IV.

He's also watched parts of my laserdiscs (Big Green Man) but I don't think he appreciates that it's dubbed in French. He does however understand that Daddy has made Big Green Man into a little DBD, and he's waiting for me to do the same with Ep. V.
