I’m kind of curious what grading you’ve given the rebel soldier shot? Here’s my version:
Bluray:
Bluray regraded:
Yours looks pretty spot on to me. I’ll be going back over the first two reels before I’m done, so I don’t have a final image yet, but it may have a touch more blue in the uniforms.
You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

I think you’re right. Here I added a touch more blue:
Edit…
Perhaps there’s a happy medium between the two.

This is really stupendous! I don’t understand how a professional team managed to color grade the films as they did on the Blurays. They must have had some serious calibration issues on their monitors.
I look forward to seeing the finished product but more importantly when can you color grade the Silver Screen Edition? 😉
I serious wonder if a mistake was made during the mastering process and was not corrected. Either someone didn’t want to get blamed or money was an issue or both.

Yeah, from what I’ve heard they had very little time to do their work and were basically working out of a closet at the Ranch. I remember one person who was doing it thought that their work was pretty good, considering the time constraint, but that it looked much more uneven when seeing it a few years later. I have to think that their equipment was faulty.
Aspects of Silver Screen are already being incorporated into this project, in order to ensure the highest quality color possible. Here’s a LUT for the greenish highlights in Sliver Screen, but apart from that I’ll be happy to wait for bigger and better things on the film front:

It looks awesome! Great work!

That’s always been my assumption as well. They just had to have had miscalibrated monitors or something. The only other reason that makes sense is George’s possible input to make it look so strange. Just wouldn’t make sense for a reasonable person with good equipment.
I’ve tweaked the color of Reel 4 to make it more consistent. Here’s the updated grade:

So… this is my first post on the forum.
I’m very impressed by your previews of reel 4 and very interest by the work on Star Wars colors currently made by yourself, Dr Dre, Towne32 etc.
As a part of the garbage pit scene is at the end of your previews and in the beginning of the preview of former Team Negative One’s terminated project “Eastman vs. Technicolor”, I found interesting to make the comparison.

This color unajusted technicolor scan has more contrast and less greenish tint (rather blueish). And looks in my eyes more “theatrical”, because of its effect of lights and shadows. Leia’s dress and stormtrooper armors are whiter whereas the background wall is way darker.
So, I wonder if you have any plans to make your correction match more like that kind of scans or if you consider your choices for that scene as definitive.
Here is the TN1’s frame with a little newbie’s treatment to refresh it : http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/164194
How would look the bluray matched to it, for exemple with Dre’s tool (just to see the result) ?
The shot you mention is actually the first shot of reel 5, and is more blue than most of the surrounding shots. It does look nice in isolation, but there is a lot of variation in the color of print sources, and most of them have a strong green tint in this scene. I could still tweak the contrast, but I’m fairly happy with the color.
Congratulations on your first post! You have taken your first step into a larger world. 😉

I’ve found a picture that I guess I have never paid much attention to, until a couple of days ago now.
Look behind Luke and Han, and you’ll see the exact same Rebel soldiers that were fighting on the Tantive IV, in the very beginning of the movie, in their Blue uniforms. I’ve often wondered if the color of their uniforms were indeed a Blue, or Grey-Blue, or what? But if any of you needed a reference to go by to what they should look like at the beginning of the movie, there it is.
This screen shot was taken off of the SSE edition, but other editions are very similar in color:
Just so you can see, here it is from DeEd v2.6:
I also never commented on your Reel 4 preview here NeverarGreat, and it’s appended version, but they both look great, but I do like the appended version a bit better.
Nice work!
The shirts of the soldiers are blue, the pants are grey. This 35 mm frame from -1’s 1997 SE print scan shows the difference (although the colors are not accurate to the print, and the blues are a bit much):
Repeat

Ummm… DrDre are u secretly Harmy’s alter ego or something?
Either that or we just witnessed the greatest coincidence in history.
You said repeat, so I did.
Lol 😄
Lol…too funny.
Alright, this begs the question then…Shouldn’t the uniforms be adjusted, to show that Blue like it is at the Celebration scene? Or Can’t that be adjusted properly? Or do we still think that color would be wrong here?
Here is that snap shot from the SSE:
