May 15 has been National Peace Officers Memorial Day, and the week containing May 15 has been National Police Week, since President John F. Kennedy signed Public Law 87-726 on October 1, 1962.

Thank an Officer if possible during the week for their service.

I really expected a little more respect from you. I have the utmost respect for blue collar workers; they are the people making this nation run. I can’t claim to know this as well as you, although I have been a trash man so I know what it’s like to be neglected doing a job that people need to have done by others. No one here is saying what blue collar workers do is meaningless, it’s quite the opposite Police are Blue Collar workers, you should be glad a group of blue collar workers are receiving recognition. But if you can’t recognize that Police put on a uniform everyday to protect and help people like you and your family and if you can’t give credit where credits due for people who do that, I don't know what to tell you. If something was created for blue collar workers such as traffic management workers, I wouldn’t try to take away what those people have done for others by bringing up another group of people that deserve recognition. You could try and do something about it rather that complain that one group of people have something that another doesn’t. If you were just being light hearted I apologize for making it serious, just means a lot to me. And I meant no disrespect throughout that.

Just to reiterate....

Monday, my dad got a call of a man with a gun in a crowded restaurant----bathroom---
he walked in and as the man was walking out he had his hands in his pants----
My dad and his partner bum rushed him and found his hands on a loaded 9mm pistol.--he was a thai gang king-pin----
No joke. Theres San Fransisco and every other City in the US.

Roadworkers don't do that everyday.

This thread has been enlightening to just how little respect people have for police. Pretty sad. It only took until the fourth post before somebody said "f*** the police" that was nice (and yes, I get the song and album reference, still innappropriate. Hopefully brikhaus was the only one laughing his ass off on that one).

Anyway guys, ferris, I appreciate what you do everyday man. WES, I appreciate what you dad does everyday. GhostAlpha, I appreciate your familiy member who is an officer, and I appreciate that you have decided to go into this line of work yourself.

I don't know any of you guys personally or your families, but I have known a decent number of police officers, and I know some of the sacrifices you and your families make. There is a lot of crap we as the general population don't have to go through thanks to Police Officers. If one happens to pull you over and give you a ticket, or arrest your brother for dealing drugs... well... get over it. No reason to hold a grudge.

Since it is the last day for National Police week (and Armed Forces Day) I figured I end the week with a great quote
