This is a Star Wars cartoon I made with a friend in 1978 when I was 8 years old, using action figures, plasticine, a bed sheet as a background, some lava rocks, real human hands and any other toys I could find, enjoy! Filmed with an 8mm camera.

Wow, that was really great of you to share! What a blast!

What’s the internal temperature of a TaunTaun? Luke warm.

I love it, if you ever want it professionally transferred, drop me a line.

I remember doing similar stuff with my old Revere Regular 8 camera, it was wind-up (clockwork driven) and had single frame advance and fit in the palm of your hand.

I love old film tech, thanks so much for sharing!

I feel like this stuff was so much more easier to do back in the day.

It wasn't...

Now you grab an iPod and istopmotion, you point the ipod at the scene, arrange your toys, and press the button. It snaps a shot. You can judge your framing, exposure, lighting etc. immediately.

You get onion-skinning so you can see how much you have moved the items, you can preview the movement that has happened so far, you can use another iOS device as the trigger so you aren't touching the one filming. You can delete a frame if your hand was in shot or something went wrong.

It is *so* much easier now.

Before you didn't know how the thing was going to look until a few weeks later when the film came back in the post.

This belongs in a museum!

Seriously, this is really great stuff. It deserves a proper transfer.

Seriously love it!  My and my friends always wanted to do a stop motion film using our SW figures and toys but none of us knew anyone that owned an 8mm camera.

The best part is when R2 gets pissed and hulks out!

 So do you!

By the way, I made a stop motion movie with mostly Star Wars action figures when I got my first digital camera about 11 years ago. I guess this would be an appropriate place to share it. It's about a Spanish electrician super hero foiling a plot to steal all of the earth 's water.
