And I thought that Dune was regarded as a classic, albeit straying from the novel.

I’ve seen lots of complaining about the movie, especially from fans of the Dune novels.

The old “Love the book, hate the movie” syndrome. I liked Lynch’s Dune even more after watching the Sci Fi Channel miniseries, which looked like a cheap green screen movie with leftover costumes from Flash Gordon at times in comparison.

I honestly don’t see why people hate book-movies when they aren’t 100% accurate. I mean, I would prefer that a directly based film should be as accurate as possible, but not everything in a book can be properly portrayed in film, and if someone wants to adapt it then they’ll have to accommodate. Then you have adaptations that are only loosely based and aren’t supposed to be connected to the source material very much. When a film isn’t as good as the original book, I just read the book. Think of MASH. I think the book is a lot better than the film, but there are certain things that the film brings with it that make it a comparably enjoyable experience.

EDIT: I really need to stop making such long posts.

I always enjoyed Vegas Vacation. I grew up with it though so that probably effects my opinion a lot more than I would like to think. The idea of a family going to Vegas and falling apart because of drugs, drink, sex, and gambling is a fun idea too since I have personal experiences with that so that also most likely makes me find it funnier than everyone else does.

I liked Vegas Vacation alright. Wasn’t as good as Vacation or Christmas Vacation but it had some good laughs.

Vegas Vacation was on the mediocre side, but still tolerable. European Vacation, on the other hand – that was shit; I don’t know why it doesn’t get more hate than it does.

Never saw European Vacation. Only saw Vegas once when I was surfing through channels and nothing else was on and I got more than I expected from it really.

Yeah, Vegas Vacation was okay. Actually, it’s pretty good if you consider it’s 15 years after the first one. European Vacation is so bad, I don’t know how some people consider it the best in the series, it’s one of the worst comedies I’ve seen.

Yeah, but you have no sense of humor, independent of your opinion of the Vacation movies. Proven scientific fact.

Cool story. I also dislike bullies who try too hard.

David Lynch’s “Dune”
“Big Trouble in Little China”
“Casino Royale” (1967)
“HEAD” (Staring The Monkees)

I know this post is almost a month old, but since when were these considered bad. I love all of these movies. HEAD is a favorite of mine in particular, fantastic film.

I was going by poor box office results at time of release.

I’m offended. I try exactly the right amount.

Are talking about Bad/Good movies, like “The Room” or “Showgirls”? Or are we just talking about shitty movies that we’re too blind to realize are garbage, like the “Godzilla” reboot or “Signs”?

im glad someone else agrees with me that godzilla was awful.the thing is most star wars fans like godzilla because the director of that movie is making the new star wars movie rogue squadron.about stealing the death star plans.so im not happy they picked this director garrett i think his name is for this project.surely they could have found a better director?

What about the people who liked that film prior to Gareth Edwards being confirmed as director of Rogue One? Also, I’m guessing that most Star Wars fans dislike Robocop 2 even though it is directed by Irvin Kershner.

Not enough people read the EU.

Is it true the Rebels simply could have bought the Death Star plans on plans.so? If so, many Bothan lives could have been spared.

I was shocked at how much I enjoyed Rat Race. I thought it was a very respectable homage to movies like Cannonball Run, etc, if such films can be considered respectable.

Well, considering I have framed posters of Star Crash, Barbarella, Death Race 2000, A Boy and His Dog, and Zardoz (among the “proper” films Silent Running, Metropolis, and The Dark Crystal) hanging on my walls, I can safely say that I have a few.

I absolutely adore both Galaxy of Terror and Forbidden World (which I consider part of a shared universe due to the same sets being used as a budget cut 😛 ). They’re some of my most watched blurays. GoT features great matte and model work (can’t say the same for the creatures), and FW has a great monster and FANTASTIC robot.

Star Crash is another favorite. It was my now six year old son’s first science fiction movie (and second was Battle Beyond the Stars (don’t worry, his favorite is now 2001)).

The other day…
Me: do you like old movies or new movies?
Son: I like new movies.
What about 2001? That’s an old movie.
Oh, okay. What about…hmmmmm…Star Crash?
That’s old.
What about Star Wars?

Yes folks the first movie that came to my son’s head was Star Crash.

Is Ice Pirates considered bad? I fuckin’ love that movie. So much robot porn.

And of course Barbarella is my favorite movie of all time.

Cujo - I think this movie is burdened with a terrible first half. The second half is fantastic and features a wonderful performance by that mom from ET.

I think The People Under the Stairs is great fun.

The Fly 2 is another underrated movie. It has quite a bit of heart for an 80’s monster movie sequel. Nice performance by Eric Stoltz and nice creature effects. It’s a nice twist making the monster a “good guy.” Nice. It’s nice.

And Zardoz, as mentioned above. People only remember this movie for the kitsch (which is great, dammit), but they overlook the actually very good science fiction story it presents. Give it another look once you’re over the initial weirdness.

The Fly 2 and Zardoz? Yes, those are criminally underrated movies.

Yet again, count them in my list as well.
