They haven’t been online in a while, just try to exercise some patience. They’ll be back.

Hey could I link to this edit too 😃

After being beaten and battered by prequel hate, I promise not to be that to the next generation.

Apologies for the silence on this thread. Now that EP1 V3 is done I’m tinkering with this to put in the new logo, add in the Aksoka duel and add in Boba retrieving Slave 1. It’s mostly done, so will be available soon.

Ooh, I don’t think I ever got version 2 of this!! A link, please. 😃

Hi! I just found these edits, they sound really amazing. May I have links to them both?

I like you, let us burn things together.

Version 3 now completed and available as 1080.mov, mkv and Blu-ray.

In the end I didn’t re-instate the battle at the Corvus fortress. It never felt a necessary part of the story and details the plot. The movie runs so much better without it.

Instead I’ll slightly alter the Mando-Armourer dialogue in EP3 regarding the beskar spear. It doesn’t need to have come from a Jedi.

Have you considered incorporating Shamook’s redone VFX of Luke’s first entrance in the Mandalorian Season 2 Finale? Some shots don’t look good as far as the mouth movements go but I believe I using a few re-done Shamook shots could really help bridge the Luke we see in the Mandalorian with the more realistic Luke seen in the Book of Boba Fett?

I considered it but couldn’t find an adequate quality version.

Spectacular! I would say that it even has a better rhythm than the first, and although the changes have hurt me more in this one (I love episode 7 of the second season), seeing it I understand that it is impossible to integrate the story in another way. I loved the way of integrating the Boba Fett plot, it feels completely organic knowing the nature of the third part (which I haven’t been able to see yet, but I’m looking forward to it).

The only problem I have noticed is the sound. In the parts with music it is more noticeable: it is as if it had applied a noise reducer that distorts the general loudness. These days I have been putting the film in Premiere to change some parts with music because otherwise it seems to me a fantastic film.

Congratulations, another great job. 😉

This was a lot more of a struggle to edit into a movie. There was a lot I would have liked to have included, but for time and structural reasons had to be cut. The Ahsoka/Mando team up, episode 6 and episode 4 have some really great moments.

In terms of the sound issues, I have watched it back a few times and didn’t pick up on anything. We’re there any specific time stamps where it’s a problem?

Yes, of course it seems like a more tricky season on a structural level because although it has a more marked focus from the beginning (taking Grogu with the Jedi), it also takes advantage of that focus to pause in more adventures and secondary plots.

Regarding chapter 4, I also thought for a moment if it would be important to include it in order to establish the empire’s intentions with Grogu, which may have importance in the future. But for now the setting is so slight that the important thing would be what we see properly in the future.

And about the sound, I notice it especially at the end of the film: when Luke is leaving with Grogu in his arms and the music plays quite strongly, I notice a watery sound in the background. I have seen the .mov version, if you want I can check if I notice the same in the .mkv.

I have checked and notice the same problem in the .mkv. Could it be a compression that has been applied to everything?

I’ve also noticed a sudden lightsaber sound around 1:22:30, when Grogu is sitting with Ahsoka. I also think some of the music from other scenes in Corvus creeps in throughout that scene.

If you’re working on other edits right now and have the sound mix lying around I can take a look at it myself.

I’ve been searching for movie edits of The Mando shows and I’m happy to have stumbled onto this and apparently the season one you just did a new version of? I’d be so happy if I could get a way to watch both season 1 and 2 that you have made. Thanks for doing what you do!

Hi smudger9,

great edit again! Although my heart would’ve wanted to keep the battle between Ahsoka and the Magistrate and the entirety of the mission on Morak, after having watched your edit I definitely understand the reasoning. It’s a little bit odd how the season itself again and again finds reasons for Din to be sidetracked, something I didn’t notice that much when watching the season week after week when it aired. But especially the beloved chapter 15 has only the purpose to find Moff Gideon’s coordinates, so I guess that’s not really a lot in terms of the broader storyline.

I’m especially impressed how your cutting choices from Mando episode 1 to 2 align. This is true for the Mayfeld storyline (introduction in Episode 1 was cut and then the mission on Morak) and the reappearing Mythrol (chapter 1 and chapter 12 cut in their respective edits). For someone without knowledge of the original series this would work really smoothly, I suspect. Speaking of chapter 12 (‘the siege’) cut, the cloning lore might be important for later seasons, but this was such a short bit in the whole episode, that it probably will be possible to recap that when it comes up again.

One thing that bugs me a little bit is the story behind the beskar spear. When the Razorcrest is destroyed and only the spear survives it seems like something important, that is not really explained. Maybe it just bugs me because I know the story behind the spear and the hypothetical first time viewer wouldn’t notice anything off. But I was wondering if the scene where the Magistrate hands Din the spear could be reinstated with cutting off after the line ‘kill the Jedi and it’s yours’. The assumption then could be, that it’s some kind of payment up front - although probably unusal for her character - or the tool to do the killing, since Din mentioned how hard it is to kill a Jedi.

On the technical side I, too, noticed the sound problems in loud scenes. For example at 1:46:10, but the whole battle before and after this suffers in varying degrees from the problem. The ending at 2:36:20 is another example, where the sound gets muddy.

But again: I really enjoyed this, awesome work! 😃

Many thanks.

The sound issue has been mentioned before. It’s not present on Final Cut, so I’m not sure how it’s happened. I’ll try re-rendering to see if it solves it.

This season was much more difficult than season 1, as you say, due to the weekly quest structure. I had to make some really difficult cuts that have more of an impact on the story than I would have liked.

If the cloning story is picked up I don’t think it will be a problem, however the Beskar spear really isn’t satisfactory. I have an edit where the Corvus battle is included, but I don’t like the pacing. Once Mando season 3 is done I’ll revisit this episode to see if I can improve it.

I’ve just uploaded a newly rendered version, which sorts out the sound problems that were present at a few points in the last upload.

I was watching Mandalorian Season 2 and your edit popped into my mind. Maybe you’ve tried this before but couldn’t one just use parts of the scene where the Magistrate shows the beskar spear to Mando and then cut out the parts where he hands it back to her?

One could then take it as an upfront payment or something similar in the context of your edit. Which Mando then chose to not live up to his end of the bargain. That way the spear doesn’t appear so out of nowhere in the edit.

Since Mando Ep 2 is going to be moderately restructured due to Mando Season 3, I figure I’d give my piece here as it’s most relevant on this thread.

I do agree that while giving Grogu away is an ending rather than a beginning, it still feels like the right move to bump that to Mando Ep 4. As someone who didn’t either Luke coming to save the day in Mando Season 2 (which honestly made me stop Mando Ep 2 at Grogu’s capture because I knew what came next) or the reversal of giving up Grogu, moving both of those moment into one packaged narrative lets me pretend that separating Din & Grogu only for their coming back together to help save the day in Mando Ep 3TBoBF.

As for ending Mando Ep 2 with Grogu’s capture, it’s still a tad TESB-esque, even if it doesn’t have the same weight to it. Empire works because Luke thinks he’s going to get trained & have everything he needs to fight Vader, only to be curb-stomped & have Vader drop that bombshell on him. The closest thing to that moment would be Boba revealing to Din that he & his father Jango were indeed Mandolorians, so there’s a type of brotherhood between Boba & Din that promises they’ll indeed rescue Grogu. That scene & ending with Gideon with the Darksaber is a decent enough ending for Ep 2, and then rescuing Grogu in Ep 3 is your raid on Jabba’s palace

Thanks Darth.

It then also allows Episode 3 to be all about Grogu and Din’s relationship, with Boba very much a supporting character.
I’m just going to embrace the fact that, no matter what backtracking Favreau and Filoni make, Grogu was clearly with Luke for a pretty short time. And he returns to Din without any evidence that he’s more able to use the force.

I know a lot of editors are trying to arrange things to extend the period that Grogu is with Luke, but I’m not sure that really fits with the story now that we’ve seen how it plays out.
