Why would Disney and Fox executives be willing to discuss Legacy with Verta if they had no intention of ever releasing the non-SE versions of the films because of Lucas?

A credible source familiar with the matter told me it’s a plot to enter his residence and steal and destroy his masters.

Rather than engage in speculation, I contacted your source, and he told me that Disney has just released the OOT on Myspleen.

George Lucas can’t handle the fact that people like the original versions over his “vision”
George Lucas can’t handle the fact that people don’t like his prequel trilogy.
So what does he do?
He makes the original versions of the films unavailable on a modern format and he incorporates elements from the prequels into the original trilogy.
He didn’t even take up Robert Harris’s offer when he offered to restore the theatrical cuts FOR FREE
I was so glad to hear about Lucas selling off Star Wars to Disney, because I thought this meant that the
theatrical cuts would eventually be released. Well, it’s been almost 4 years since the deal happened, and we still don’t have them. I just hope John Landis is right about what he said. Maybe I’m just too doubtful about Disney.

There are two things to consider with this. First: did Harris actually offer this personally, or was it an off the cuff comment on his forum or in an interview? If the latter, I would not consider that to be a serious offer. Second: this would also cost Lucas a significant amount of time and money. Just because Harris would not demand compensation, Lucas would still have to pay for all of the materials and workers necessary to make it happen, not to mention he would undoubtedly watch over everything himself.

Harris hand restored Lawrence of Arabia and The Godfather. I’m pretty sure when a guy like that offers to restore your movies for you for free, you’d take it incredibly seriously. His offer was an “Open Letter” to Lucas

And then George Lucas sold the whole thing for 4 BILLION dollars. Why on earth would he still have a say in anything Star Wars related?

Maybe because he put in the contract that Disney can’t release the theatrical cuts? I’m not sure if that’s even a thing you can do when you plan on selling your entire franchise off. I’m not a lawyer. Plus FOX has partial stake in the films.
Then that one user on this thread contacted Ben Fritz at the Wall Street Journal and Fritz said that George Lucas is the reason why Disney/Lucasfilm has no plans to restore the OOT.

I just hope that Fritz is wrong and I hope that whole thing about Lucas denying Disney the right to release the theatrical cuts is just a bunch of BS.

Where was this? I’m not saying it isn’t true, but I’d love to see where Verta said this.

It seems like people are really embracing the new characters. In fact, the big question people ask me now about Star Wars is, “Are Finn and Poe gay lovers?” And really how the f*ck would I know? My second husband left me for a man, so my gaydar isn’t exactly what you’d call Death Star level quality. ----Carrie Fisher

And why would Dsiney accept such a clause? Would you buy something for 4 billion dollars and still let the former owner tell you what you can and can’t do with it? Neither Lucas nor Disney were forced to sign this deal, if Lucas wanted to have a say in Star Wars things, he could have kept his company, if Disney can’t do whatever they want with Star Wars, they could have let him keep it.

But Fritz knows everything! He’s a real journalist. They’re always right and their sources always tell the truth.

Star Wars is the black tar heroin of cinema. It is the greatest curse in the history of civilization. George deliberately sold it to Disney to fuck up the distribution rights to make all but impossible for the originals to be released again. Even if we were to finally get the originals, all we have is a franchise that has one, maybe two great movies in out of nearly a dozen.

No, I’m pretty sure the greatest curse in the history of civilization is the state of the General Star Wars Discussion subforum.

Well, either that or any number of natural disasters. Or 9/11. Or Hitler. But to be fair, I’m just cherry picking examples where lots of people died.

That’s a bold claim lol

The only bad thing Star Wars has ever caused is that it turns reasonable and intelligent adults into self important, whiny, hypocritical and immature people when the topic is at hand. It’s baffling how some of these people can go from being completely reasonable and normal in one moment to reverting back to the mind state of an 8 year old in the next.

Incorrect. The popularity of Star Wars pretty much ruined the science-fiction genre while simultaneously influencing other good things. You have some post-SW gems of sci-fi wonder, but a great deal of stuff that came after SW was just crap cashing in on the popularity of space fighters and lasers.

Army of Darkness: The Medieval Deadit | The Terminator - Color Regrade | The Wrong Trousers - Audio Preservation
SONIC RACES THROUGH THE GREEN FIELDS.
THE SUN RACES THROUGH A BLUE SKY FILLED WITH WHITE CLOUDS.
THE WAYS OF HIS HEART ARE MUCH LIKE THE SUN. SONIC RUNS AND RESTS; THE SUN RISES AND SETS.
DON’T GIVE UP ON THE SUN. DON’T MAKE THE SUN LAUGH AT YOU.

I wouldn’t say that, since two of the greatest sci-fi films ever made (Alien and Blade Runner) came out shortly after SW. On top of that, they were both heavily influenced by Lucas’s concept of “used universe”.

I’ve read a lot of things by you (since they turned off the Ignore feature), but this is perhaps the most ridiculous thing you’ve ever said.
