No one has heard from DrDre since October 2023. Seems like he is busy with other stuff. So no wonder you got no response.
I would recommend writing in the dedicated thread (for the theatrical cut) because I imagine there are more people with the download-link then here.

Got some update.

Yes, DrDre is back and currently works on the color grade for Part 2 and also Part 1 (to improve some scenes). But it can take a little bit longer than expected since he has a lot to do at work.

So TTT and ROTK EE are 2025 releases at best.

I wouldn’t mind if the color grading was kept more in line with the 4k retail release… not so much a fan of the greenish tints in the og releases for TTT & ROTK.

I read the whole thread but no one answered that yet: anyone knows if you can just remux the audio from the 4K releases (Atmos) into those?

Because the audio is just… better in those releases.

However the image is NOT. This is godly. But yeah, it needs better audio. Some parts in the extended blu-ray are so bad, even in the DTS mix, that they go out of audio bounds (the sound distorts). Listen to Galadriel intro in audio software, you’ll see. Bad mix.

I see no reason why you can’t. Simply use MKVToolnix. Extract the audio file from whatever release you want and remux it with this mkv. DrDre did not alter anything that could result in a sync problem between video and audio.
I applied some subtitles from other releases and didn’t spot any issues

Also, how does this compare with the 35mm scans of the theatrical and extended cuts done by elendil42 in another thread?

I already have DrDre Theatrical versions and this one looks fantastic, would greatly appreciate to get the download link, thanks in advance

Well, these are sourced from the Extended blurays, with a custom colorgrade based on the 35mm. The colors should be similar, but the 35mm ones will probably have a bit more grain or scratches maybe, or just general lower quality since the bluray source here used uses the original camera negative and not some copy-of-a-copy 35mm print. Just a guess though, I haven’t seen the 35mm ones yet.

Got another of those waffle? 😃 Based on what DrDre said about the quality of the theatrical blu-rays vs the extended (EE, shadows) and those who have seen both projects, is there a visual difference in quality or is extended just as good now for the first movie?

Sent! His EE 4k upscale looks quite good. I would even say it looks better than the official 4k release. The main drawback that I see is black crush where detail is noticeable in the retail 4k release (dark areas still retaining detail) which doesn’t come through in the upscale. However maybe the revised release will find a way around this or compensate better for it.

I was planning on rewatching these films this week but will hold off if someone is kind enough to send a link? Dre’s work is always excellent!
