Least Favorite and Favorite Fan Films..

Personally, I dislike Christmas Tauntauns for some odd reason. I respect the people who made it for making a fan film, but I really didn't think it deserve the George Lucas Award for best fan film.

However, my favorite fan films are:

To Know a Jedi
Troops
Revalations
Who's on First
Star Wars Gangsta Rap
Rock. Nirvana. Awsomeness.

Maybe George was reluctant to bestow an award to anything that actually spoofed his films or had better writing?
Besides Troops, I thought "The Invisible Enemy" was really funny.

Where were you in '77?

Yeah, I think George can't get over the fact that some people are better writers and more creative than him.
Rock. Nirvana. Awsomeness.

Revalations was great. I wasn't a big fan of Pink Five, but IMPS was awsome.
Rock. Nirvana. Awsomeness.

I liked the Trial of Han Solo.

Revelations - I appreciated what they set out to do, but the actors didn't have the presence or believability that the movie needed. Also - I find it funny that a lot of people crap on the real movies for extravagant and unecessary CGI stuff, yet a lot of fan films are loaded with it.
Dun' get me wrong though. The movie had a lot going for it. A lot of good stuff, but I didn't like the swordfighting and the Vader voice was almost inaudible. And what was WITH that wierd looking villain? Was that a mask or something?

Troops was good. Loved it in fact.

IMPS was just ridiculous though. The introduction went on for far too long (I understand this partly - they are setting up a lengthy series and have a lot of ground to cover...). The opening shot was nifty, but went on too long. They could've made that impact in a shot half that length.
I did like some of the funnier Stormtrooper banter near the end, but most of this movie was a dud.

Gangsta Rap - absolutely brilliant. In fact, the newer version is even better.

Broken Allegiance... hmmm. In a couple of areas I swear Revelations lifted from this one. Hah. No not really, just the chase at the start. The Vader guy sounds hilarious when he says 'don't disappoint me'. The dialogue in the end battle is truly awful. And the villain should have kept his helmet on, he's ridiculous.
I respect them for including a Kalgan shot however (Kalgan shot = when the villain wakes up at the end and comes to kill you).

I don't want to be heavy handed when criticising independant films. Because I make 'em, and totally understand the limitations involved. However, a movie like Revelations gets enough exposure that it's mentioned on TV, and people begin to compare it to the real movies. So it should be judged by the same standard - and under that kind of spotlight, it just looks mediocre.

There are a lot of lame ones, but out of the few I've seen, my favorites (in no particular order):
Knightquest
Duality
Troops
The Empire Strikes Backyard
Episode III: A Lost Hope (I don't know if it counts, but its hillarious!)

Yeah, Revalation's acting is terrible. It is rediculous. I mean Troops had excellent acting. Revalations was a terrible acting wise. However, the SP-FX were excellent.
Rock. Nirvana. Awsomeness.

My top 5 are:
Revelations
Broken Alleigiance
To Know A Jedi
A Lost Hope
Dark Redemption

Not sure about my least favs at the mo, Maru will be in there for sure.

Troops acting is gonna be good! they just stand there and look at things and dub the voices over. Revelations on the other hand had some great acting, the only person I thought was the greastest was The Mara Jade type woman (cant remeber her name right now)
