Was watching Rise of Skywalker And i’m still confused by objects being teleported from one location to another. For a series that is totally fake and make believe with space wizards i couldn’t suspend my disbelief. It just breaks the canon laws of the Star Wars universe which they’ve been doing since Force Awakens. Things like lightspeeding through shields, lightspeed skipping, lightspeed ramming, automatically leveling up like a video game character by downloading another persons training through a force link. Force Skype, astral projection. Maybe i could ignore some or most. But its just so bad in the ROS i had to change the channel.

Now I’m absolutely no apologist for the ST, but Force Skyping and astral projection both appeared in Legends material going back to the '90s, so they’re not without precedent.

“The Anarchists are right in everything; in the negation of the existing order and in the assertion that, without Authority there could not be worse violence than that of Authority under existing conditions. They are mistaken only in thinking that anarchy can be instituted by a violent revolution… There can be only one permanent revolution — a moral one: the regeneration of the inner man. How is this revolution to take place? Nobody knows how it will take place in humanity, but every man feels it clearly in himself. And yet in our world everybody thinks of changing humanity, and nobody thinks of changing himself.”

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. A solid C- minus about the same as Crystal Skull. A lot to like and a lot to dislike, i’m pretty torn on this movie. Harrison was really good in it. I don’t want to spoil. The digital photography and dark lighting was distracting to me though. So not Indiana Jones. And i love Johnny but that was his weakest Indiana Jones score. The cgi was bad and not believable.

I will say this is the worst of Jimmy Mangold’s films i have seen. And its still a pretty middle tier film.

Transformers Rise of the Beasts. Not recommended easily the worst of the franchise. Cheap looking, even worse cgi. Can’t even recommend Peter Cullen’s performance it was lackluster. And he is the only voice actor from G1 in it as far as i could tell. No Frank Welker. No Megatron, no Galvatron. But there is a mishmash of including Beast wars and Unicron in one story for some reason.

And it isn’t from Bay but it still has the Bayformers theme and Bumblebee but acts like those other movies never happened. And it tries to set up a combined Transformers/GI Joe universe. And it fails.

The film Openhimer is a fantastic biopic that educates on what really happened to Robert Openhimer, but also teaches that once you open the proverbial Pandora’s box, you can’t close it again.

In regards to Oppenheimer, I really wish I lived in a country where there’s a 70mm IMAX screen.

I just watched Oppenheimer in 70mm IMAX. I really liked it. While personally I don’t think it’s his best film, it’s still very good. It was just a little long and started to drag a little towards the end.

I’m watching the original theatrical American Graffiti. Other than it being 480P and the wobble in the telecine its very enjoyable. The print looks surprisingly clean. The mono mix isn’t incredible but it is great to finally be able to hear it.

This might be my go to version if it wasn’t for my Japanese Laserdisc. With a very nice video transfer and the 78 stereo mix.

The film Barbie (2023) has a very powerful message that we don’t need to live in someone’s shadow to succeed, and that even the smallest of actions can make a difference. But most of all that we all need to do our part to stop misogyny and sexism.

The Flash. Awful script. Bad cgi. Story and continuity makes no sense. Wastes Michael Keaton and Sasha Calle.

The only thing i liked about it was Michael Keaton as Batman.

Sasha’s Supergirl is one note and all she portrays is anger. But she is in the movie for such a short time i don’t blame her for that.

It was cool to see some of the cameos, but it really shouldn’t have been made. Why they didn’t just adapt the much superior Flashpoint instead. Baffling. The animated is such a better movie.

Run Lola Run (1998)

I enjoyed this movie, even though it seemed to be more of an exercise in style over substance. Some of the 90’s aspects of it such as the music or the short animated parts are very dated, but I think they added to the charm of it.

Star Wars. ITV broadcast. Surprising good quality recording for its age. It has the Blast it Wedge where are you line from the mono mix.

I was surprised how obvious the garbage mattes are and this is from a recording in nov of 1982. So it doesn’t have to be HD for them to stick out like a sore thumb.

I sat down and watched the home video release on Digital of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. With the making of. The opening is exciting but it is the only part of the movie like the first 3. Except for one scene i changed my mind on the cgi it is mostly well done. I haven’t changed my mind about it being too digital or modern.

I have also changed my mind a bit on the score it is effective if not as rousing as the original trilogy.

The negatives isn’t that it is too long, it is that it is so boring. The maguffin is weak. All the complaints of Phoebe Waller Bridge aren’t warranted either, she is like the only thing in the movie with some spunk and life. The movie being boycotted over culture wars before a single frame was shot is insane.

I think all involved did a good job with all the difficulties of the production. Yes even Kathy Kennedy, she deserves some credit. Mangold had a difficult task on this movie. I salute the effort even if it is flawed.

The film You’ve Got Mail is a complicated story where no matter how much someone hurts you, you cannot hurt someone back, but most important of all sometimes redemption comes in unexpected forms.

Elemental (2023)

I admit, my expectations were low, and I only watched this out of peer pressure and boredom. The result was mostly what I expected it to be. I suppose the romance is sweet, but that’s the only thing I liked. It’s hard not to watch this without thinking of Zootopia, which handled its racial subtext far better than this. The jokes were mostly puns I didn’t like, and the “follow your passion” message has been done approximately 25,000,000 times prior to this film. It’s not the worst thing Pixar has ever done, but I still wouldn’t recommend it nonetheless. How this film managed to pull off its box office miracle is a mystery to me.

I have altered Lucas’ visions. Pray I don’t alter them any further.

Speaking of Pixar… I just rewatched Incredibles 2.

Upon thinking it was a letdown when I saw it opening night, I must say it was a fun experience this time around.

Sure it’s never gonna be as great as the original, but I had fun with it, and am learning to appreciate it. I do hope they will eventually make a third with the characters aged up by 10+ years.

It still blows my mind we had a Cars trilogy between these two movies.

saw Shadow of a Doubt for the first time last night, the beginning drags a bit, but the rest is pretty good.

I’m not really that much of a movie purist. I really should’ve thought my name out a bit more.
