Maybe it depends on the crowd, but I remember seeing it at a special screening with a few hundred B-movie fans and thought it was hilarious.

I did some binge-watching on a lot of B-movies and Roger Corman movies last year (Star Crash being one of them), and my experiences are hit-or-miss. It either entertains me or it doesn’t. I’ve watched plenty of b-movies that left me bored despite the rabid fanbase. While other times, I watch one that is universally despised by everyone else, but ends up being an unintentional comedy riot that makes my night.

I guess when it comes to b-movies, it truly is a subjective experience, even more so than with more “artistic” films. When you watch a movie that’s supposed to be good, there is a real effort to make it something more universally applicable to everyone. This is why people take it personally when someone says they hate, say, The Shawshank Redemption. That’s rarely the case with a cheesy b-movie where rookie mistakes are made on a consistent basis. Either those technical blunders are gonna get a laugh out of you, or you’re just gonna notice their existence and be reminded you’re not invested in what’s going on.

Tl;dr: the entertainment level of a b-movie is variable in my world, and if someone doesn’t like Star Crash, I understand why. Not everyone has to laugh at the same things.

True. Nothing wrong with someone disliking a bad movie…it’s almost definitionally the norm!

It should it was done on 65mm negative. Star Wars was on Vistavision 35.

Most of SW effects budget was in building the motion control system. Camera’s/ building optical printers. From what i’ve read they spent all of the 2 million effects budget with one acceptable shot. Whereas Doug did the entire show on CE for 3 million.

I wonder how ILM finished SW, i assume Lucas asked for more money to finish the movie. I do know Lucas held Dykstra responsible.

The film Napoleon was another great example of how good Juaquin Phoniex is as an actor. A hard watch for the faint of heart, but a must see for any history or romance enthusiast.

The last film I saw at the cinema was Godzilla Minus One and I finally got round to watching Drive at long last, I’m happy to say I really enjoyed both.

The Marvels, it was fun even if the villain was weak and the effects weren’t stellar and if you told me it was a made for streaming movie i would believe you, because it doesn’t at all look like a blockbuster that cost hundreds of millions to make.

Jane Eyre (1996)

I rewatched this after rereading the book, and despite it seeming to rush through the plot points to fit under a two-hour runtime, it is still a decent adaptation with a pretty good cast. I wish that this novel would get the miniseries treatment; it could be great.

Evergreen Laserdisc of Raiders of the Lost Ark fairly decent if old video master which is the same as the original VHS. Audio is digital stereo original 35mm mix.

Empire Strikes Back i think its the first or second pressing from Japan on Laserdisc, very clean looking better than the US release even though the video master is identical. No crosstalk or rot. Full screen and analog audio only.

Both were very fun to watch in Standard Definition on an old 4:3 set.

I also watched a bit of 4K77 on my laptop, and The beginning of the Korean Temple of Doom pressing on laserdisc very orange colored transfer with a heavy amount of grain.

The Oscar Nominated Animation Shorts are excellent, my personal favorites being 5 Senses, A Letter to A Pig and I’m Hip.

Star Trek IV the Voyage Home, very uneven, too much goofy comedy. Some of it still makes me laugh though like the colorful metaphors, Spock neck pinching the guy on the bus, Scotty talking to the computer. I’ve gone back and forth over whether Rosenman’s score is good or awful.

I used to be lukewarm towards Star Trek IV, though my appreciation’s definitely grown in recent years. Thank you, Kurtzman, for unwittingly providing some perspective.

Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979)

It’s been decades since I first saw this film and this was my first time watching the Director’s Cut(4K). A fun film to pick up after doing a run of the Original Series. Though slows down a bit too much toward the end. The changes in the DC are a bit of a mixed bag. All of the changes done early in the San Francisco section are very poorly executed. Whereas the changes done in the V’ger section do a lot to add to the film and the atmosphere it’s building.

I’ve seen many refer to it as “the Slow Motion Picture”.

I thought Bruce Botnick’s remaster of the score was phenomenal and all the crisp detail i heard for the first time in the Atmos mix. At first the dnr bothered me but i very much enjoyed the new cut of TMP. I really wish they’d have let Shatner finish V, the effects in that one are bad. II-VI could of had the theatrical audio and a new Atmos mix, but no they just used the 2009 blu mixes.

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982)

Having been released just three years after TMP I wasn’t aware that there’s supposed to be an 11 year time gap between the films. Since TMP is supposed to be just two and a half years after the end of their original five year mission, this allowed for the characters to catch up with the ages of their actors. But it threw me off at the start with them rehashing some of the same beats of Kirk struggling with age and being an Admiral. Regardless, great film!
