Just saw The Super Mario Bros. Movie last night. Solid 8.5/10. It’s not gonna win any awards by any means, but you can tell that all around it was made by people that love the franchise and the characters. The VAs are giving it their all (Jack Black especially), and my theater was full of laughs and applause throughout.

Overall, it’s just a lot of fun.

Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure. It was excellent. Napoleon on a waterslide wasn’t something I thought I’d ever see.

Jordan Peele’s Nope.

Honestly this movie did nothing for me. It left me feeling indifferent.

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.

Good but not great. Jeffrey Jones getting kicked in the face by Jennifer Grey was great, though.

Also, who the hell names their daughter Sloane?

Cable Guy. One of my favorite movies. Lou Holtz Jr & Ben Stiller are goats for writing and directing this movie. Jimmy Carrey and Matthew Broderick’s acting was amazing. 🔥 A classic that never gets old in my opinion.

That movie’s only crime is that it was way ahead of its time.

Y’all are right on.

The Cable Guy’s been one of my favourite films since I first watched it when I was twelve. Never could fathom why my father disliked it.

“The Anarchists are right in everything; in the negation of the existing order and in the assertion that, without Authority there could not be worse violence than that of Authority under existing conditions. They are mistaken only in thinking that anarchy can be instituted by a violent revolution… There can be only one permanent revolution — a moral one: the regeneration of the inner man. How is this revolution to take place? Nobody knows how it will take place in humanity, but every man feels it clearly in himself. And yet in our world everybody thinks of changing humanity, and nobody thinks of changing himself.”

I agree the Cable Guy is great. For one, it’s relatable, as he’s obsessed with movies and shows like I am. And on the other hand, IT’S JIM MOTHERFUCKIN’ CARREY!

The film Guardians of the Galaxy 3 is a fantastic ending to a heart warming trilogy. It’s a must see and a masterpiece. Thanks James Gunn for all the fun and heart.

Star Wars has 3 eras: The eras are 1977-1983(pre Expanded Universe), (1983-2014) expanded universe, or (2014- now) Disney-bought version. Each are valid.

I saw the first two GOTG movies and neither did anything for me, so I don’t feel any desire to watch this one.

Only seen the first GOTG. How’s that Shakespeare quote go? “It’s a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.”

I really hate live-action superhero movies.

I completely agree. I just watched 3 yesterday, and honestly, I think it might be the best movie in the trilogy! I respect that they went to the dark side with this (and not just in some sugar-coated way that I expected from a Disney-owned property), and the change in tone made me appreciate the sillier moments when they showed up as well. The villain was unlikable in the best way possible. And Rocket’s backstory got me shedding a few tears too. In a sea of lackluster post-Endgame MCU efforts, this is arguably the best Marvel movie we’ve had in a while (unless you want to count Spider-Man: No Way Home). I highly recommend this one, and I hope we get more movies like this from the MCU (although admittedly, I doubt we will).

I have altered Lucas’ visions. Pray I don’t alter them any further.

Finally watched The Batman. I liked it. I didn’t like it as the Tim Burton films or The Animated Series though.

Only Yesterday (1991)

I remember finding out about this Studio Ghibli film a year or two ago and was surprised I had never heard of it before. Finally watched it this week, and it is now one of my favorites from the studio. It does not have any fantastical elements like some of their most famous films, but its main character is very relatable and the slower pace still keeps you invested.

I really enjoyed Dungeons and Dragons with Chris Pine. A fun movie and doesn’t try to be anything more than it is.

I also watched Shazam Fury of the Gods, loved the first one. This was terrible. Bad cgi, lackluster villains. Poor performances. Even the Wonder Woman scene which was fun didn’t save it. It reminded me of those Percy Jackson movies and Jessica Alba Fantastic 4 movies except worse. The best i thing i can say is it wasn’t offensive at all and is a decent family movie, but it is also one of the worst DC Superhero movies ever made.

Just finished watching Ferris Bueller’s Day Off for the first time ever.

I guess the reason the movie is so fondly remembered is because it was a product of its time. I personally found it worth watching if only to pass the time, and I did chuckle quite a few times. I subscribe to the theory that Ferris is actually a figment of Cameron’s imagination and that Sloane represents a girl Cameron has a crush on but has never worked up the courage to talk to. Another reason is that they do a lot of stuff in Chicago that is simply impossible within the space of a few hours. If you take a good look at the movie Cameron is the real main character of the story.

Damn, I really felt sorry for Cameron. It’s pretty obvious he’s been neglected by his parents, and all scenes where he’s the main focus are pretty damn depressing.

Given his criminal charges Jeffrey Jones’ character Ed Rooney feels pretty off-putting.

Avatar: The Way of Water.

Didn’t care about what was happening until the 49 min mark. From there until the 2 hr 15 min I really loved it, but once the final battle begins I went back to not caring about the movie.

So basically I loved about one hour and twenty minutes of the movie. Honestly if it had just been 3 hours of Pandora’s marine life it would have been perfect, as I’m a sucker for marine life.

The film Spider Man Across The Spider-verse is an excellent movie with the moral that as we grow we are not alone on that journey.

John Wick 4. Bad unconvincing gunplay, bad stunts. No real acting or story. Worst in the franchise. With a few nice sets and locales. I can’t believe they want to make a fifth one. The 4th should be the end.

The film No Hard Feelings has the message of how there is both hope for the future and that lies have consequences.

I’m really looking forward to watching it. I really like the idea of Jennifer Lawrence being unabashedly goofy.

Alien Resurrection. A film so awful i almost feel bad for my negative rating of Alien 3. Clearly a superior film.

The only thing i will say is Brad Dourif comes off as creepy in it. But the whole thing looks so cheaply made.

At times Alien Resurrection feels like a made-for-TV movie. I also believe humans have had their lung capacity enhanced in this future, because of how lengthy the underwater sequence is in addition to all the exertions such as all the weight they’re carrying and being chased by the xenomorphs.
