My personal ranking of the ANOES films:

  • A Nightmare on Elm Street – 9/10
  • A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors – 8/10
  • New Nightmare – 8/10
  • A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge – 6/10

I am, first-and-foremost, a Nancy fan, not a Freddy fan. When she died in Dream Warriors, she died to save those kids. When Freddy returned and killed all those kids in Dream Master, it rendered her sacrifice meaningless. So I utterly detest the later sequels, regardless of whatever merits they may have as films.

The Force Awakens

had a few friends over for an early birthday celebration over the weekend, and used that as an excuse to watch this. And of course i needed to rewatch it before The Last Jedi next week.

Still a top notch film, but so much will hinge on what The Last Jedi does with these characters. since it is all one story, either it will all work together, or it won’t to some degree. Assuming that The Last Jedi is as great as well all hope it will be, i think that The Force Awakens will remain a great film for years to come.

8/10

Watching this with a group, it is clear that Fin and BB-8 are real crowd pleasers.

I think the weakest things for me in this movie are

  • Poe: I think you can tell that he wasn’t originally meant to be a big character, he just isn’t needed in my opinion, and i don’t really buy the fast friendship that developed between him and Fin. but whatever.
  • General Organa saying “snoke”
  • the gall of writing the line “A good question. For another time” for Maz Kanata

I wonder if this’ll become the “How’s Annie?” of the SW Universe.

We all know what became of that Annie. She was struck down by a smooth criminal.

I just went through the Jason films for the first time recently. I hold similar sentiments in regards to Tommy Jarvis and Jason Lives. The films after that just feel pointless.

I’ll never understand the strong feelings TFA evokes in people.

I don’t understand strong feelings either way on them either.

Indeed. BB-8’s likable. Finn’s likable. Poe’s likable. Rey’s likable and cute. Ren’s lame. Snoke sucks. The rest are all meh. The whole movie’s just one big ball of ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

This line makes more sense in the context of TFA: Restructured.

Does it? I haven’t watched that yet.

I think so, since in that version they know the First Order’s coming and they’re short on time. But that’s neither here nor there.

Lady Bird: Less of a comedy and more of a documentary, since I know two parents who are exactly like this. Pretty good watch if you’re in the mood for a more indie experience.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

That’s one of my favorite lines in the film. The original edit implies there’s no time to waste so that’s not really an issue, but the real reason why it works for me is because that’d be the worst time to stop the film cold for a long and tortured explanation. The line’s basically saying “just go with it,” which you’d have to do no matter what, but this way it doesn’t waste your time.

I’ve decided to return to rating movies on a number scale, as pointless as it actually is. I’m not even sure why I’m doing it, I just think it’s kinda fun I guess. For example:

John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017)

Yes to both.

These both now get 3.5/5 from me.

The Room (2003)

Prep for The Disaster Artist…wife got us tickets for Saturday, and she had still never seen the original (not including the live Rifftrax version).

We laughed our asses off. As far as I’m concerned, anyone who doesn’t think this is one of the best films ever created can drop off the earth. That’s a promise.

11/10

I don’t find it that funny. People’s incompetence pisses me off more than anything and The Room is nothing but incompetence.

We watched the trailers for the first time after watching The Room. It looks fantastic.

I also have the book, only have gotten about halfway through so far.
