Logan

After years of bitching about there being too many Wolverine movies, I get another Wolverine movie, and it’s glorious. All I can say is, I was sick of the X-Men, but this film made me a fan again. I’d recommend it to people who’ve never even seen an X-Men movie. This movie was so good, it made me want to re-watch the series. Do yourself a favor and check it out.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

The Fate and the Furious:

This was the most ridiculous movie I have ever seen. I saw the original one, and it was good. The second one was garbage. I never watched any of the others, but they looked like garbage too. This one?

I guess 1 star instead of zero, because it seemed to be made so bad on purpose.

My daughter and I are going to see Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 tomorrow night.

YAY!!!

My daughter and I just got back from GOTG Vol. 2 and it was very cool. I wish more of the Marvel movies could be as well done. There is something else I noticed that should be said without giving away anything … one character has some CGI used to portray their younger selves and it blows away the CGI Tarkin & Leia by miles. Why they could NOT do such a good job for Star Wars but they can for Marvel is beyond me. It is apparently fairly easy as they showed with Tony Stark in Civil War.

We enjoyed this immensely.

As the closing credits read like a phone book for a major city, I didn’t even catch if ILM was involved? But yeah, if that wasn’t a dead ringer for a certain actor, very impressive.

P.S. See this in IMAX 3D if you can.

Where were you in '77?

I plan on it once I see Alien: Covenant this week.

From what I’ve read, the CG wasn’t as hard after putting a lot of makeup on him, and it looked more real in the end because of it.

Continuing with my plan of watching every film on the AFI top 100, I watched Casablanca for the first time.

I must say that I was quite tired when viewing so hopefully it did not hinder my judgement too much.

Overall, I really enjoyed it. Great acting, witty dialogue, a good character arc. I just felt that I did not connect with the romance all that much. The flashback sold me on the romance and I genuinely felt really bad for Rick and what he had to go through, but once they reconnected, they fell back in love all to quickly and made the ending not feel as emotional. But I still appreciated the ending more for the fact that Rick decided to finally fight for a greater cause. That was an arc that felt earned.

In the end, I liked It’s A Wonderful Life A LOT more and I think films like La La Land fleshed out a romance far better which paid off more in the end, but I still appreciated this. Onto the Godfather Part Two and 12 Angry Men! As you can tell, I am not really moving through the AFI Top 100 in numerical order.

If you enjoyed Casablanca (and how couldn’t you?), I recommend you also watch To Have and Have Not. The romance is probably more “fleshed out”.

Which is fine, but if it could be done for Tony Stark and “ahem”, Tarkin & Leia should have looked far more real.

You guys are operating under the assumption that Marvel digitally replaces their heads.

The process is actually more like a moving photoshop job where they’re manipulating the actor’s actual faces instead of creating digital doubles.

Here’s an example.

This process just wasn’t possible for Rogue One because the key actor is deceased. As for Carrie, how to put this delicately, she would not have been able to double for her 19 year old self.

Great breakdown. The complaints against Rogue One are illogical and simply is a matter of apples and oranges.

For some reason in theater I thought tarkin looked great and Leah looked fake, but on home video it seemed the opposite.

Most of my problems with Rogue One come from the fact that none of the characters have any kind of an arc, which resulted in me not caring about them. For a movie that you know how it’s going to end, you kind of want characters to care about and you hope for them to succeed. I also don’t think Leia or Darth Vader needed to be in the film, at least not in the way they were used. Tarkin should’ve just been another actor. Guy Henry looks and sounds enough like Peter Cushing to get away with a simple makeup job. I do appreciate that they tried, but human CGI will only contribute to dating a film after time passes.

There was a lot of neat things to look at, I’m not going to lie. It looked more like Star Wars than Force Awakens, but Awakens had better characters.

Actually, I was not under this assumption, and I did forget to mention Michael Douglas in Antman … they did an amazing job on him too.

For me, I would have preferred to see Tarkin in a hologram version or more shadowed to better compensate for the CGI. As it is now he stands out like a sore thumb. I understand Leia being difficult too. They could have maybe used a profile view or shadowed the scene so it wasn’t so glaring. With all that they can create from nothing there had to be better alternatives is all I’m saying.

Halfway through Schindler’s List. One of the hardest movies I have ever had to watch so far. It is just brutal. A damn well made film though. So far I think it might be spielbergs best crafted.

It is a very moving film and crafted from the heart.
