Nah, I don't hate on that. How could I? It's the only good thing in the movie. =P

I wish footage of John Belushi, (wearing a Godzilla suit) hosting Megalon when it aired on NBC back in '77 would turn up. Somebody must have taped that!

Where were you in '77?

        AMERICAN ULTRA

Wow! Kristen Stewart can ACT?!? I didn't see that coming.

The rest of the cast was spot-on as well. Some good black comedy and fiery action sequences. Quirky.

I enjoyed MI:RN and TMFU, but this one is my favorite of the August spy/action films.

I wonder if this will do as well as it deserves to do. It's heading into the slow season and lots of competition for the same demographic.

Of course, it would help to understand some background. This movie plays to those silly conspiracy theory nutjobs. One theory goes like this:

In the beginning, there was Satan. From time to time Beelzebub squats and brings forth another of his greatest creations. Being The Dark Lord, these turds are sentient practitioners of the most horrifying evil. They have borne different names over thousands of years, but today they are most prominently represented by The Society of Jesus.

These blobs of toxic excreme...I mean...these Jesuits, in turn, squat down and sh*t out their various tools, today most prominently represented by the CIA. Being fecal tools, they add the most treasonous, totalitarian, suicidal and democidal STUPIDITY to the mix of heinous evil.

Anyway, as some paranoid kooks will tell you, immediately after the formation of this pile of traitorous, cruel, Judas goat cra...I mean...these faithful and wonderful citizen-protectors, they went to work co-opting the highest levels of the entire psycho-babble industry. Their special concern was neuron-melting acids and extreme manipulation of individuals and masses. This was done in the name of opposing the Soviets, and there was a bit of rivalry, but the primary objective was to prepare for the new Jesuit world order.

These fevered froot-loops imagine that the CIA and co-operating agencies in the US military and nations such as Germany and Britain were responsible for the development of nearly all the psycho-pharmaceutical substances being mass tested on the broad populations and witting or unwitting subjects. These chemicals are coupled with psy-op conditioning through media and control of the environment. All of this in order gain total control by melting away the soul and destroying every decent value. They want to master the human domain.

      SPOILERS  SPOILERS  SPOILERS

Some hyperventilater in a cabin or a basement will probably start to wonder.

This movie was released under difficult circumstances. Is it even intended for a mass audience so much as encouragement for their tools? Are we that close to The Big Glitch and The Great Culling?

The protaganist is rescued by the good CIA goons. He's saved from the bad goon who has decided that these human wrecks are too much of a problem. It turns out, nubile young chicks are extremely attracted to programmed, insane, mass killers. He gets an exciting life of slaughtering Chinese agents who are encroaching in the Jesuit Phillipines, before his recall to help "deal with" The Great Culling.

We all know these conspiracy freaks have lost track. Of course the darlings running these ops are the most honorable and understanding of souls. They love and trust their drugged-out, twisted killers willing to betray, rape and murder everyone in their own communities. It's the only path to true love and happily ever after...

...Just ask Immortan Joe

Anyhoo, the great take-away from all this is KRISTEN STEWART CAN ACT!!

To be fair to Ms Stewart I've only seen two of the middle Twighlights. I had no idea why any of them were behaving the way they were. Just in a snarky mood, though you could never tell.

       She was terrific in AU.

Turbo Kid (2015)

It is a CRIME that this film is only getting such a limited release. Went out to see it tonight and was blown away. Easily one of my favorite films this year. A loving homage to the low budget Wasteland films of the '80s. Highly recommend you check to see if it's playing in your area and if it is, go see it right away!

The Babadook is fantastic.  I've been talking it up whenever I have the chance.

The Big Lebowski (1998)

One of the many awesome things about my wife is how much she loves this movie and how every so often she'll look at me and suggest we watch it yet again.  One of the few movies I rewatch anymore.

Oh, I put Donnie's "phone's ringing, dude" on her phone so she can have it as her ringtone.

For the most part, it's better than an A, but there's something about the ending I didn't quite like, so I can't give it a full A+.

So what you're saying is that The Big Lebowski's climax ruined Whet Dream May Come?

Barbarella (1968)

The sort of movie that these days (in the wake of the Reagan Revolution which Star Wars heralded) you'd never see in an American cineplex.

Although it evidently was the source for the design of the Bespin twin-pod cloud cars.

9.1/10 blouses with vacuformed breast windows.
