Since they're like poetry, what with the rhyming and all, I find that I only need to watch three out of the six films.

Better every time. Genius performance, brilliant direction and sound design, paranoid, and features a highly fashionable raincoat.. ;)

4 creepy Harrisons out of 4 secret recording balls

Is it just me or does anyone else agree that this is a better film than Godfather II?

Steamboat Bill Jr. (1928)

Just finished watching this. What a great movie! I've been wanting to watch some of his films for a while so it's great that they've been having Buster Keaton Sunday's on TCM.

I like it better than the Godfather which is considered blasphemy.

Godfather a film Coppola did not even want to make and did not write the book it was based on. An adaptation he did to get out of debt.  Debt largely caused by Lucas and THX 1138 and Warners cancelling all Zoetrope projects.

Godfather may be the best film of its type.  The acting is top notch, the directing and the screenplay, however it is far from original and is overrated slightly imho.

Yeah but what about Godfather II?

Conan O'Brien Can't Stop (2011)

This wasn't what I expected at all really. I thought this was gonna just be a quirky little documentary that followed him around on his tour and would be pretty light hearted. But nope! This really showed how he is in real life. A very interesting guy who's kind of driven by his insecurities. All in all, very good documentary and pretty poignant when you realize the true meaning behind the title.

Walt & El Grupo (2008)

This is a film about a trip Walt Disney and group of his artists took to South America. It was neat seeing all of the photos and footage from the trip and the drawings that were generated from it. Also the animator's strike that was going on at the time. The only thing that really detracts from this is the very slow pacing of it and the almost complete lack of first hand accounts but that can't really be helped.

I really want to see it, but I have no way of doing so. All the videos stores in my town closed and I don't have Netflix yet.

As a matter of fact, I haven't really had any time to watch movies lately at all because I've been so busy with work. However, once I have some free time, I'll probably watch Midnight Express on blu-ray. I picked it up for ten bucks a few weeks ago.

George Harrison: Living In The Material World.

Don't start this if you decide you want to do anything else all day...not only is it long, but it sure as hell makes you think a lot. The problem is, I just never felt like Marty was getting at everything that should've been there. For something that was over 200 minutes you'd think there would be a bit more focus and detail, but I still can't help feeling like there was some skipping over done.

All in all, a really great tribute to a visionary.

At least a 3/4, it's on HBO and also found it on OnDemand services currently in two parts.

Probably "Attack of the Puppet People"

I give it six tiny people out of six tiny people. And one tiny cat.

Made me feel sad for the "bad guy" in the end.

The 2010 remake of The Crazies (1973).

The original perplexed me.

It has always had a good reputation in certain circles and before I got to see it I was keen, anticipating a decent George Romero film made between the first two zombie films.

It was a bit of a disappointment, truth be told.

The one aspect I really liked was the ambiguity as to if certain actions were down to stress, military command or mind bending viral infection.

Like the remake of 2004 of Dawn Of The Dead (1978) the film starts with a Johnny Cash track (the ever so British We'll Meet Again) and like that film, what follows is a largely good film, respectful of the source material but also significantly freed from it to strike out in new directions.

Unfortunately the new directions are where the film falls down.

The infected people sport obvious make up effects which makes it less easy to keep the paranoia factor going and without giving too much away the tone goes from John Carpenter circa 1980 to Paul W S Anderson circa 2002.

When it's good it's much better than the original but when it's not so good it's not as good as 30 Days Of Night (2007).

Have you seen the original? Much better than the dumb American version.

Strictly speaking it's the dumb British version (it's a Hammer production) and I wouldn't call it dumb as such, it's well made but it's very much surplus to requirements seeing as the original does pretty much the same thing only noticeably better.

It's a bit like Quarantine in that regard (which is an interesting watch after you have seen REC but is the lesser of those two).

I was disappointed by this documentary. Not that I didn't enjoy it, I was deeply moved by it at times, and can't help but love anything that fauns over the Beatles' legacy, but it was this fawning that bothered me coming from Scorsese. The doc played like a promotional piece written by Harrison's publicist. Everything that could've been considered controversial about George Harrison was danced around or completely avoided. His womanizing, his temper, his copyright suit... I just feel that the best documentaries maintain a certain journalistic distance from their subject, and don't shy away from the unflattering moments, but this doc did nothing of the kind. Scorsese handled Harrison with kid gloves, and as a result the portrait felt unfinished. As I read in another review, it's part of a trend in recent documentaries that whitewash their subjects as if made by a devoted fan instead of a critical documentarian. Apparently, this is nothing new from Scorsese, but it's the first of his rock legend documentaries I've seen.

I watched the original the day before I watched the remake. There were a lot of things I liked better about Let the Right One in, after watching them back-to-back, I think the "dumb" American remake, Let Me In, is my preferred version. There were some painfully cheesy bits in the original that the remake lacked. I liked the portrayal of Eli much better in the original though.

BRITISH!! The Dumb remake is BRITISH!....

Oh, by the way, since starting my film prodution course I've watched a ton of movies, that I won't list here because I can't be bothered.

But I did watch 'Citizen Kane', for the gazillionth time, today for a lecture which I really enjoyed

And I just watched 'Whiskey Galore!', which was great. Why don't they make comedies like this anymore?

Conspiracy: The Trial of the Chicago 8

A 1987 historical docudrama made by HBO, telling the true story of the trial of 8 protest leaders of the 1968 Democratic convention in Chicago.  Lots of big name stars, and the script is based on the actual court records.  The real life defendants are shown commenting about the trial via short clips (done in 1986/87) that are injected a various points into the film.  This is another film that is very hard to find, and that should be shown in schools as a requirement.

The hit song "Chicago (we can change the world)" by Graham Nash is based on events surrounding this trial.

“First feel fear, then get angry. Then go with your life into the fight.” - Bill Mollison
