IRON MAIDEN (REMASTERED VERSION) – IRON MAIDEN
INDIVIDUAL TRACK RATINGS:
TOTAL SCORE: 66/90
Why would you listen to a remastered Maiden album? lol
That just happened to be the version uploaded on YouTube. *shrug*
I tend to stick to the originals no matter what type of music I listen to. So much can go wrong with remasters. but not with video games though. Video game remasters are always good.
The Beatles remasters in 2009 were great. All Beatles CDs before then were questionable at best.

What the hell is a video game remaster?

There are always exceptions to the rules but unless the original has abysmal production and/or mixing then you should probably stick with the original. But that’s just me. And you should always stay away from fan remasters.

They’re pretty much just graphical tune ups

Remastered albums don’t really alter the original master tapes; in fact, a lot of remastered music comes from the original masters when the previous copies either didn’t or were shoddily transferred. This is why the original CD release is rarely as good as the later ones. ZZ Top is a great example of this, but that’s a slightly different situation since they fiddled with the drum tracks for the 80s release, but restored the original mixes on the newest CD collection.

Mfm is right. In most cases the remasters are just better transfers or more optimized for CD. The masters for older albums were optimized for vinyl, which adds kick and bottom to the sound. Early CD transfers didn’t account for this and there for usually lack punch and bottom. Led zeppelin is a great example of this.
Vinyl is the way to go anyway though.
Possessed is spot-on. Led Zeppelin and ZZ Top are excellent examples of this, although I’m pretty sure both have been rectified at this point on CD, but I still prefer the vinyl of course.

I wish I had Vinyl but I’m not sure it’s worth the time or money to try to find all of those obscure originals out there. Especially when I can just buy FLAC files.
Given what you listen to, it may not be worth it. I listen to almost anything and everything, so the majority of my collection was bought for less than $3-4. Your music might be tough to track down.

It is worth it. And you don’t always have to find the obscure originals… Vinyl reissues still sound great.
Extreme metal vinyl I have (I have hundreds of vinyl but only listing metal as that’s what interests you)
Deicide-Legion
Morbid Angel-Altars of Madness and Blessed are the sick
Slayer-Hell Awaits and Reign in Blood
Vital Remains-Into Cold Darkness
Sepultura-Morbid Visions, Schizophrenia and Beneath the Remains
Children of Bosom-Everything (9 albums)
Insomnium-Everything (6 albums)
Kalmah-Black Waltz, 12 Gauge, Seventh Swamphony (you should listen to Kalmah. I like melodeath a lot, but they are more like symphonic death cuz they don’t compromise the heaviness they just add symphony.)
Legion of the Damned-Feel the Blade (no nonsense deathrash with amazing sound quality)
Coldworld-TheStarsAreDeadNow
All those cost about 30 bucks a piece and with the great artwork and packaging it’s easily worth it and they sound fantastic. Collected all in past two years. I could get more but spending money on other things currently. Way better than any CD.
Army of Darkness: The Medieval Deadit | The Terminator - Color Regrade | The Wrong Trousers - Audio Preservation
SONIC RACES THROUGH THE GREEN FIELDS.
THE SUN RACES THROUGH A BLUE SKY FILLED WITH WHITE CLOUDS.
THE WAYS OF HIS HEART ARE MUCH LIKE THE SUN. SONIC RUNS AND RESTS; THE SUN RISES AND SETS.
DON’T GIVE UP ON THE SUN. DON’T MAKE THE SUN LAUGH AT YOU.

Children of Bosom-Everything (9 albums)
I’ve only listened to their first album but I’m not sure if I should push on. In your opinion do you think they got better?
Kalmah-Black Waltz, 12 Gauge, Seventh Swamphony (you should listen to Kalmah. I like melodeath a lot, but they are more like symphonic death cuz they don’t compromise the heaviness they just add symphony.)
Will do when I have spare time.

The problem isn’t really with the price of the vinyls it’s getting a good player. Regardless of price I’m certainly getting my essentials:
Slayer - Show No Mercy, Hell Awaits and Reign In Blood
Morbid Angel - Altars of Madness, Blessed Are The Sick and Covenant
Death - Scream Bloody Gore, Symbolic and The Sounds of Perseverance
Bathory - Under The Sign of The Black Mark and Blood Fire Death
Dark Throne - A Blaze In The Northern Sky and Transylvanian Hunger
Kreator - Pleasure To Kill
Pestilence - Consuming Impulse and Testimony of The Ancients
Candlemass - Epicus Doomicus Metallicus (I know…the name is terrible), Nightfall and Ancient Dreams
Megadeth - Peace Sells and Rust In Peace
Dead Congregation (best modern Death Metal band imo) - Graves of The Archangels and Promulgation of The Fall
but other than that I don’t see the purpose in amassing a huge collection.
