What did you think of it?
Album - 7/10
The non-Simon compositions (the staple Dylan (and copy cat) folk songs of the time) were kind of bland and the only ones that stand out are “He Was My Brother” (written by Paul Kane) and “Peggy-O” (Traditional arr by. Paul Simon). The Simon songs on the other hand, while too few, are amazing. The simple tunes “Little Sparrow” and “Bleaker Street” are two of my favorite songs from the entire Paul Simon catalog. While “Sounds of Silence” is an amazing song as well, I tend to prefer the overdubbed Tom Wilson produced version made with The Wrecking Crew a year later in 1965.

Album 5/10
This solo record by Paul Simon was recorded just a few months before Simon and Garfunkel would become a household name with the 45 rpm single releases of the re-produced version of “Sounds of Silence”. At the time (1965), this record was only released in the U.K. and later deleted in 1969 by the direct request of Paul Simon himself. I have to agree with Paul’s request. This could be considered nothing more then a novelty demo recording for some great future Simon and Garfunkel tunes. Simon’s voice often drifts out of tune and cracks in cringe inducing ways, while his guitar playing is very far from the standards we would come to expect. The song writing and studio version of “A Church Is Burning” (CD bonus track) are the only things that redeem this album.

I agree with this for the most part. Until Google became more widespread I didn’t even know that this album existed, and I’ve always been a big Simon and Garfunkel fan.

(It hasn’t happened yet)
Shockingly, Duracell doesn’t love that cover.
Oh wow Frink is listening to music I’ve heard of.
Don’t do drugs, unless you’re with me.
I’ll try to do better, sorry.

A red-haired chick alone doesn’t make up for bland composition.

That’s one of the only Ramones albums I’ve never listened to.

That’s a damn shame. Listen to the first four. End of the Century is weak sauce.
That’s a damn shame. Listen to the first four. This one is good, but weak sauce in comparison.
I will. I have listened to every other Ramones album, just not End of the Century.

Oh, I got ya backwards. End of the Century really isn’t that good.

Haha, I was always under that impression, but I haven’t intentionally avoided it. My favorite is probably Rocket to Russia, but I really like Road to Ruin as well.
