I think he’s under the impression that albums are photographs or pictures.

This is exactly what I think of when I think “Opeth”.
Never heard of the band though.

Yep.

Yep.
Makes sense given the reflections in the album cover. They mostly play melodic stuff with singing but other times they play straight up Death Metal. One of the most dynamic bands in existence.

I feel that ImpScum veers more towards the latter.
That’s because you’ve not listened to the albums he listed.
Go do so and realize your life just got better.
Opeth - Morningrise
beautiful
You should give Insomnium a go. They are much more straightforward melodeath but they are very melodic and often have acoustic/clean sections and they just write wonderful music.
