Laserdisc Conversion?

Author

I am pretty new to laserdiscs, and I was wondering if there is a program out there that will rip to your computer so you can convert them. I am pretty sure there is but I just can't find one. If anybody could point me in the right direction it would be great. I have a PC if that helps. Thanks in advance.

LaserDiscs can't be "ripped" in the same way as CDs and DVDs can, because only the audio is digital. Therefore, you have to capture the analog video output and digitize it. If your LD player has a digital audio output (most mid-level and higher models do), you can capture the PCM (and I'd imagine AC-3 or DTS, if applicable) bitstream, but I don't think it can be done any quicker than real-time.

Also, I find the discs tend to be a bit large to fit into my PC's DVD drive tray.

They almost fit into the paper tray of my printer. If I got one of those printers that does large sheets, I could probably rip 2 or 3 at once.
