Maybe we can get Molly to capture it for us? She does a wonderful job. I sent her a pm.
😃
Last July, Toho simulcast their fully 35mm sourced 4K restoration of the uncut 1962 version of King Kong vs. Godzilla in theaters and on the Japanese Movie Specialty Channel, a marked and long overdue improvement over their ugly Blu-Ray version. No rips have surfaced and a foreseeable home video version has remained unannounced thus far.

Can someone with the capabilities to rip Japanese HDTV programs grab the .ts stream of this next time it airs?
I don’t see anything scheduled for next month, but I’ll bump this thread as soon as there’s broadcast dates again.
So, a new book came out and we learned so much, and it is called, “Anguilosaurus, Killer of the Living”.

Ooh, I’ll have to keep an eye on this thread.
Molly says she doesn’t get that channel so I asked if she’d at least keep an eye out for someone who might be able to help.
I have a .ts of this. If anyone wants a copy, throw me a PM.

Sounds too good to be true!

Same here. PM sent.
Alright, I’ll get to uploading it soon. Didn’t expect so many PMs so quickly lol.
Anyone else having audio issues as soon as the movie starts playing?
So, how does this stack up against the Toho bluray?
I haven’t done a direct comparison but I think this is a little softer than the Blu-Ray.

You have sound in the video until the movie start?

Yes when the movie starts, the audio starts to goof in VLC or MPC…
Oddly if I load the file into virtualdubfiltermod I can hear the audio. Same when using Kodi as the media player. VLC and MPC will not play the audio properly once the movie begins. I’m assuming its because the audio switches from aac 2.0 to dolby 5.1 in the middle of the TS file.
Also this video is INTERLACED (and anamorphic?) 1440x1080i, looks like it “stretches” to 1920, which is so strange.
Don’t get me wrong, I am very grateful for this file (a dream come true), just assuming this is the way it was broadcast. This is the best the film has ever looked (I own the official Japanese Blu-Ray Toho put out too), definitely original film elements were found and re-inserted flawlessly.
Yes it is broadcasted interlaced and the channel’s resolution is 1440x1080 but since the aspect ratio of the film is 16:9 thats why it stretches to a widescreen AR.
If you would encode the movie down to 720p it’d be fine.

Hello, I sent you a PM about this copy that you have ^^
I’m really curious to see it!
Thanks for the link Akaii! Now to find some good subtitles.

PM sent, and it sounds like RIP to your inbox.
With a glorious thanks to Akaiii, I have made a decent x264 encode of this and distributed it to MySpleen and Cinemageddon. I have synced all available audio mixes (plus isolated score) and a legitimate subtitle translation to create the definitive version of this marvelous film in the English-speaking world. I hope that this attempt is proliferated for years to come until the film is given a proper release in the aforementioned English-speaking world.

Beautiful! Finally seeing the new restoration with the original 4-channel audio is a dream come true!

And for people who doesn’t have both MySpleen and Cinemageddon accounts (since Signups are closed since a long time for both of them) is there another way to see it?
So, despite early info claiming otherwise, it looks like the Criterion Showa Era set will include the Japanese cut of KKvG!
Copy and pasted from the official site:
www.criterion.com/boxsets/2648-godzilla-the-showa-era-films-1954-1975 said:
- High-definition digital transfers of Godzilla, King of the Monsters, the 1956 U.S.-release version of Godzilla; and the 1962 Japanese-release version of King Kong vs. Godzilla
Will this be from the same source as this broadcast? Better? Worse?
Really excited for this set.
