My birthday is March 29th, I wish I could prolong my teenage life.

Chalts, what is legally an adult in America? 18? And what exactly can you do at 18 that you can't do when you're seventeen? I'm English and here it's 16 to smoke, gamble, have sex, move out on your own and quit school if you want, and basically be an adult (sign contracts, etc, etc) and it's 18 to drink and vote. Of course, thiese age limits really mean nothing beacuse everybody does most of these things waaaayy before the legal age.

Over here one can vote at 16 (if he wants to, at 18 he has to), and drink and drive at 18. I'm not exactly sure but I think one can sign contracts, open "normal" bank accounts and get regular jobs at 14.

Compulsary voting? How democratic!

Once I turn 18 I can legally:

Buy cigarettes (not that I'd want to)
Vote in the next election
enter legal contracts
gamble where gambling is legalized
get my full-fleged adult Drivers Liscense with no restrictions

I think that's about it. In the US we still can't buy alcohol till we are 21 (again, not that I'd want to)

Seriously... What do they do if you don't vote? Drag you to the voting booth and force you to pull the lever? What if you hate all the cantidates?

Fortunally I was able to come to the discussion before it got ugly.

You don't have to vote if you younger than 18, older than 60 or 65 don't remember, with phisical disabilities, or if you can justify why you are not voting, which envolves simply filling up a form at the post office with any excuse you might have, even "I was on vacation" is OK. The vast majotiry of people DO vote and support this system, and so do I, and yes I think voting should be obligatory.

We use a electronic voting system, if you don't like the candidates you can vote for a non-existent number or press the "blank vote" button, so yes you can vote for no one, but you have to show up. If you fail to vote for 2 or 3 ellections you are not able to get passports, to get credit, to buy a house, but I'm pretty sure one can solve this problem by paying a fine or whatever, Im not sure. The fact is, even though it's relatively easy NOT to vote, a huge majority of people do, want to, and think this election system should remain as it is.

Thanks. It was a great B-Day for me. Better than I thought it was going to be. I got the 1995 VHS Box Set Trilogy, a cell phone, and about $175 in gift cards and cash.

Rather than quote the last post (because it's getting quite lengthy, you'll agree), I just decided to go for the original. Hmm, that's interesting, though. I don't agree with compulsory voting, although I think it's good that your country is really into it regardless (even though I turned 18 last year and didn't vote in the last presidential election). I do like the blank vote concept, though, where you can vote for no one. Not only does it sound like a cool idea, it doesn't seem nearly as choice-inhibiting as the government forcing you to choose a candidate, even if you like none, which is what I originally thought you meant.

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

Not sure, exactly. I'll have to check. I know it has the "Faces" style of cover on the front, and it is not the executor's box set.

If it's the big box with Vader's face on it, it's widescreen.

I just turned 35 a little over a week ago.
