Oh, yeah, here is an alternate end credits for TPM: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UK3J-HjdGgc

That sounds an awful lot like the A New Hope or Return of the Jedi end credits.

I think I still prefer it over the version that was actually used in the final cut of TPM, though... something about it never sounded quite right to me.

Apparently the version in TPM was....edited or something...

I remember reading they did not re-record the opening title for the phantom menace and used return of the jedi edited with some new material, not sure if this is true.

The article went on to say they did re-record it for attack of the clones.

I'm pretty sure it was actually recorded for Phantom and THAT was reused in the next two movies. There's a version with a clean ending available in some pre-AOTC video games, like Galactic Battlegrounds.

EDIT: I mean the main theme.

This thread reminds of a post someone here made years ago... I wish I could find it.  I'll do my best to paraphrase, "George Lucas hadn't decided on themes or storyline for each prequel in enough time for John Williams to have as much time as he had to create the themes for the OT."

My response was, "wut?"  Movies 2 decades in the making (with an "original vision" that dates back to George Lucas' immaculate conception) and George couldn't come up with stuff in time for Williams to write the soundtrack?

WHAT KIND OF CRAZY IS THAT?!?!

IT'S MY TRILOGY, AND I WANT IT NOW!

"[George Lucas] rebooted the franchise in 1997 without telling anyone." -skyjedi2005

"Yeah, well, George says a lot of things..." a young 1997 xhonzi on RASSM

"They're my movies." -George Lucas. 19 people won oscars for their work on Star Wars (1977) and George Lucas wasn't one of them.

Rewrite the Prequels!

xhonzi hadn't decided on a curseword that conveyed his frustration in time for the post to be submitted.

A few years back Mike Verta commented on his own forum that Williams is not on good terms with the Star Wars phenomenon after his experiences working on the prequels.

No surprise really; Lucas has alienated a lot people who helped him make the OT so great. It actually started back in the early 80s. Marcia and Gary Kurtz being the first.

Okay, so this isn't Prequel related, but I didn't think this deserved a new thread:

I think it's probably well known that John Williams' various scores from around the same time period all feel similar (Raiders & ESB). It's also pretty well known that, when ET sees the kid dressed as Yoday, Williams inserts a bit of Yoda's theme.

But am I wrong in thinking the music before that (starting at 1:35 in the above video) sounds like a happy version of Jabba's theme? Jabba + Ewoks, if you will.

While Williams isn't as much of a blatant self-plagiarist as James Horner, he does re-use certain cues. There's one in The Empire Strikes Back that appears in Raiders...I'll have to watch the films again to be able to elaborate but it's there...
