John Williams Film Scores

Author

Hi guys,

I was just curious as to where someone might go to either purchase, rent, or somehow obtain copies of John William's full orchestral film scores (for the original SW trilogy and Indiana Jones in particular) for personal analysis and study. It doesn't matter if it's handwritten or not; does anyone know if they rent out copies to consumers?

Thanks so much,

-TM

Try www.amazon.com

Go to Music, type in John Williams name, see what that gets you.
I'd like a qui-gon jinn please with an Obi-Wan to go.

i believe he wants the sheet music, since he mentioned "handwritten."

I own all of the soundtrack CD's. What I was actually curious about was not sheet music, but the full orchestral conductor's scores containing all the cues (and of course all of the instrumental parts), as written by Williams and orchestrated by Herbert Spencer (as opposed to piano music and other adaptations and selections) for his great work in the 70's and 80's. It seems to me that if they even sell these, the book containing all the cues would be monstrous and would cost quite a bit. That's why I was wondering if they rent out these scores like they do with Broadway, because I really doubt that these are widely available. It's not like I'm going to actually use them to record with orchestra, but I have other uses for them...

Thanks

I would imagine these scores do exist for purchase or rental to H.S. bands and the like.

Have you checked here?

Well at least the reversed surround channels have been addressed.

Thanks, Neil! Although I don't see any complete scores at first glance, I'll definitely give that a look.

OK- I finally found the (disappointing) answer to my question: Reading Film Music

It's not available to the public and it's a huge pain to secure much of anything.

ME! I just hope that they release a complete version of the score around the same time the home video versions are released.  I was always kind of upset that we never got expanded editions of Ep. II and III.

So Dave, what are your thoughts about Williams not scoring "Rouge One" or the other non-episodic films?  In a way, I wish they would just have someone re-arrange existing Williams' SW themes in the same way the producers of Superman II,III and IV had done when Williams could not (would not) return.

I THINK IT'LL ADD SOME NEW FLAVOR TO THE MUSIC.  I'M REALLY DISAPPOINTED THAT THEY DIDN'T ASK JOEL McNEELY.  McNEELY WAS JW'S PROTEGE WHO SCORED SHADOWS OF THE EMPIRE WHEN THEY COULDN'T GET JOHN WILLIAMS.  IN FACT, WILLIAMS SUGGESTED McNEELY FOR SHADOWS OF THE EMPIRE.  McNEELY HAS BECOME QUITE AN ACCOMPLISHED COMPOSER IN HIS OWN RIGHT HAVING SCORED NUMEROUS MOVIES AND TV SHOWS.

James Horner would have been a nice choice had he not died in that plain crash.
