This project is indefinitely on hold until I work out some technical issues.
I believe I have found the culprit in this disaster, and may have a resolution in a couple weeks.
Disaster sounds serious... what happened?
Well, I guess my request to Moth3r to delete this thread has been denied.
In a nutshell, the problem was actually the preamp mixer, and I didn't catch it because I was trying to do something else at the same time. That won't happen again.
The new preamp mixer will be here in roughly two weeks for me to give it a go again. If that doesn't solve the problem, the project will definitely be over as I will return everything to the manufacturer and be back to square one.
So, fingers crossed....
Threads don't get deleted unless they are spam. You might try asking for a lock instead.
Sorry you had to cancel this interesting project.
Yeah I am too. I really put a lot into TESB especially, but "live and learn" I guess. Hopefully I can get this back up and running in a couple weeks. I'll post something here either way.
Any relation with the overall point of my pm'd feedback ?
I don't understand what you say, so I don't think so.
There may be hope for the vinyl portion of the project. I'll know more within a week or so.
As for the reel to reel portion, it is indefinitely on hold and may not be until the first of next year.
I received the new preamp mixer today and here is a sample:
Sample link removed to conserve Webspace.
It is a raw track, with no software or effects or anything added. I'm still trying to see what I can do about background noise.
Any input would be grand.
Far better dynamic range and level than your previous ESB transfer imo. I'm not that bothered by the noise this time. It's just there.
Do you have any idea on how to defeat the noise?
Anything about equipments, tools etc... are chineese for me, man. My only thought would be about a professional cleaning software, if it's efficient enough.
Indeed. I am testing different settings on the software now. I have reduced the needle noise quite a bit, and the overall dynamics have not been altered. I'll provide a new sample soon.
I want to take my time on this, so I'll only be providing samples until I am satisfied with the end result.
Okay, here's a new sample. It is the exact same file as the first sample, with the DAK DePopper software applied. It has many customizable settings. After tinkering for a while and many test runs, I think I have the best settings now. Please download the sample and let me know what you think:

After some more tinkering and any adjustments if necessary, I'll be ready to get this going at full steam.
Thanks for your input.
It's been many years since I've listened to a soundtrack album on vinyl (probably since the mid-eighties); was interesting just to hear one again :)
That second sample sounds really good. Very rich sound through my headphones.
Okay, I am starting to do some serious recording now. I am doing it in 24 bit WAV format, making huge files and capturing every nuance.
Here's a question for anyone interested:
When I make the recordings available, should they be 24 bit WAV, 16 bit WAV, or FLAC?

If you can handle a big upload, I say keep them the best you can, I don't know about everyone else, but I would rather download a little bit bigger file and have it the best it can be.
Use 24-bit FLAC. Smaller file (therefore faster download), but quality is identical to 24-bit WAV.

Thanks for the input. :)
24 bit FLAC it is!
I was gonna say FLAC too :)
Good deal. :)
Work is progressing nicely. My dual processors are going into overdrive now. I can definitely say that anyone who downloaded my first attempt (Lapti Nek and SW Radio Spots) can scrap them when I get the new versions finished.
The first package will contain:
Lapti Nek Club Mix and Dub Mix RSO vinyl 12"
Return of the Jedi RSO vinyl LP
The Story of Return of the Jedi vinyl LP
Return of the Jedi RSO/Polydor CD
I'm going to put one more sample up soon, before I start making the package available. I would appreciate any feedback on it.
WHOOPS!
Looks like it will have to be 16 bit, folks. The files get bottlenecked from 24 to 16 in some of the software I use.
It is still fantastic.
The sample sounds great. I even compared to an improved version of the RSO CD (wich can sound very great through remastering) and your sample sounds even better.

Well, as far as they comes from 24-bit transfers, this is already a great guaranty.
