Is a "seamless branching" DVD of all the versions of a SW film possible?

I was thinking about this recently, and was wondering if it was possible to fit all the different versions of a SW film onto one DL disc with negligible quality loss. I was thinking of:

A New Hope
Version I: Original Edition (1977) [No subtitle, original stereo audio]
Version II: Original Edition (1981) ["Episode IV", audio changes from mono mix]
Version III: Special Edition (1997) [missing shots from LD]
Version IV: Special Edition (2004)
Version V: Special Edition (2004) with deleted/alternate scenes from Behind the Magic

The Empire Strikes Back
Version I: Original Edition (1980)
Version II: Special Edition (1997) [missing shots from LD]
Version III: Special Edition (2004)

Return of the Jedi
Version I: Original Edition (1983)
Version II: Special Edition (1997) [missing shots from LD]
Version III: Special Edition (2004)

The Phantom Menace
Version I: Theatrical Version [missing shots from Japanese LD rip]
Version II: DVD Version
Version III: DVD Version with deleted/alternate scenes

Attack of the Clones*
Version I: DVD Version
Version II: DVD Version with deleted/alternate scenes [including Droid Ship sequence]

Revenge of the Sith**
Version I: DVD Version
Version II: DVD Version with deleted/alternate scenes

*The theatrical and IMAX versions of AotC do not have a readily available source.
**The difference between the DVD and theatrical versions of RotS is so minimal it isn't worth including.

Possible? Not? If it is, how does a fan-editor pull off seamless branching in the first place?

I've never found a piece of software to make tru seamless branching dvds (except maybe scenarist but I didn't understand that program).

What is easier to do if you have 2 versions of 1 scene is just paste them after eachother in the same m2v stream and during authoring make 2 different chapter playlist, each with one version of the scene. GOPs have to be closed. I authored with dvd-lab and the point in the movie where a chapter will be skipped was marked as a layerbreak. The result is that a pause can be visible on some dvd players. I solved this by editing the ifo file with dvdremake and mark all chapter points as seamless. I've tried it once to make an edit of Star Wars with deleted scenes and it played seamless. Only thing is you can get trouble with the audio track. For example, in Ep. 4 the Death Star battle has changed quite a bit. Sometimes the sound of an explosion continues in the next scene. But in the SE that next scene can be very different with different audio so you won't get a smooth transition. A solution can be to take a large enough piece of footage so it starts with the same audio.

Combining scenes to make a branching version containing basically 5 movies seems too difficult for me with all the different audio and also colors/saturation/LD source. I think some scenes will stick out too much. Maybe a bracnhing version of the OT and the SE but that's it. More would be too complicated, for me anyway. AOTC and ROTS with the option "deleted scenes" is pretty easy to make.

Even Scenarist can't do true seamless branching - although there is workaround that will work in some instances.

Seamless branching is best left to the professionals. Saying that, the Editdroid team managed to get both the 1977 and 1981 crawls on one disc using multiple angles.

Perhaps I misused the term "seamless branching". Anyway, if it is possible to get all of this on to one disc, could someone cook up a makeshift guide for it? I would try it, if only I had access to the LD's of the '97 SE's and theatrical TPM. Any idea where to find rips of those?

I also tried multiple angles for a project. Although it worked very well in the end the problem is the total bitrate of the muxed stream can not be higher than normal maximum bitrate so if you have 2 angles the video bitrate for each angle is cut in half. Not to mention 3 or 4 angles... And ofcourse it only works for 2 different versions of the same scene that have the same number of frames. So you can't solve the problem of inserting deleted scenes with multiple angles.

I think you should start with something simple like ROTS. I only know how to do it without subtitles.

1) Rip the movie to your hdd and demux it using vobedit. You just need the .m2v and .ac3 (5.1) files.
2) Rip the deleted scenes to your hdd as seperate vobs and demux them with vobedit. You just need the .m2v and .ac3 (5.1) files.
3) Use cuttermaran to cut the .m2v and .ac3 movie streams at the places where you want to insert the deleted scenes.
4) Use cuttermaran to paste all the seperate .m2v and .ac3 movie and deleted scene files in the correct order. You now have one big .m2v and .ac3 file of the entire movie including the deleted scenes.
5) Open the .m2v and .ac3 in dvd-lab pro. Now you have to frame-index the .m2v file and set the chapter points. You MUST set a chapter point at the first frame of every deleted scene and at the first frame of the scenes following every deleted scene. And set chapter points at every other scene you like.
6) In dvd-lab pro you can make a playlist. You should make one playlist that includes every scene and one playlist that includes every scene except the deleted scenes. That way you can make 2 menu buttons, one to play the movie with and one to play the movie without deleted scenes.
7) After authoring you have to open the .ifo file with dvdremake and mark every chapterpoint as seamless otherwise there can be a slight pause when a deleted scene has to be skipped.
That's it!
