Info & Project: Episode 1 TPM game sounds files

Author
Time
 (Edited)

TPM game that came out in 1999 on PS1 and PC is a valuable source of sound files for any potential fan edit of the PT specifically TPM.

As well as background atmospherics for all the main locations there are also bits of dialog from the main characters that don’t appear in the movie itself.

The files are compressed into a file type: IMC which nearly all sound and video editing software has trouble reading.

Indeed it was only a handful of Lucas Arts games that used this file type. I have managed to find a way to decompress IMC and save as WAV.

I have decided to collect these files for a pending phantom edit I plan to do myself. Until then there are several fan editors hard at work which these files could help benefit.

I am proud to say I remember the 80’s!

I was only googling star wars sound files yesterday and learnt about this game.  I would love a copy of the files when you are finished.  If the same could be done with the other games available it would be a brilliant additional resource for editing any of the films.

Yes no problem there are a lot here and i am working though them so as soon as they are ready I will let you know. Not sure how to share them so might just upload to my drop box then email out the link to anyone who wants them, or is there a better way?

I know others on this forum have extracted sound files from a lot of the SW games on the ps2 onwards. I couldn't find anybody with the PM games though and I have it in front of me which is why I thought I should do my bit.

Do you have any SW game sound files?

Do you have any of the other SW games for the ps1?

Interesting ideas here.

I've got only PC games like Rebel Assault, Rebel Assault II, and the sorts.

I'll add to my list when I pull them out ... I'm sure others may be interested in stuff like these.

If we can create a database of sound files from games mainly for TPM and AOTC then maybe these 2 films can be fixed. I also like the idea some have suggested that bits of dookoes dialog from the CW cartoon could be also used.

Okay, if you're just talking prequel games, I have ... Episode I Racer,  Starfighter, and Battle For Naboo alongside my TPM game and the Behind The Magic for Episode I.

I haven't tried to pull any audio from any of these discs.  I would consider trying it if they have stuff folks might need or want for projects.

Cheers

I think they would defiantly be of help to someone especially any current prequel trilogy edits. Especially any dialog that is not in the films could give us some editorial options.

Unfortunately I don't have any (was never really into computer games) and was simply googling to see whether anyone had already done anything like this, but it seemed not.  I know there is this thread http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Brashs-Star-Wars-Sound-Effects-Archive-A-collection-of-the-best-Star-Wars-sounds-for-use-in-Fan-Editing/topic/12364/ but there hasnt been a lot of activity there for a while, but if you wanted to have a go at making something like this maybe you could PM Brash and see if the two of you could collaborate.

Also I'm of the attitude of just make as many sounds from as many sources available, even if you cannot imagine a use for them, you can guarantee that someone will think of something you didn't.  Just throw enough resources into a pot and you'll be amazed how many ideas start flowing out of it.

OK quick update I have finished getting all of the game sound files off TPM game.

It was a bit of a struggle as I was originally using the PS1 disc but with little joy. I remembered I had a copy of the game for the PC and was able to access this a lot better.

I have copy's of 162 sound files BUT.....................these are ONLY the background atmospherics and music cues. I was hoping to extract the dialog samples I remember being in the game(although I must confess to last playing the game 13 years ago).

This is a little disappointing as I was hoping for the dialog to give some possible editorial options.

I think the best thing for me to do is to play the game through to see if its my memory is wrong. If it is then I do apologize but we still have 162 files to help if people want to change the soundtrack at any point and still have the atmospheric sounds.

Anybody with a good memory or recently played the game could you shed some light on these ('missing') sounds?

Additional: The sounds that I do have are for all major environments in the film so replacing the score is possible to give a more OT sound. These files are general background apart from the score ques: I.e. people bustling outside the arena, or water fountains and birds from Naboo and so on...

Does anybody have a collection of good quality pod racer sounds at all?

I am going to open a new drop box account and upload the sound files later tonight. Anybody who would like a copy PM me an email address you would like me to send the link too. Also if someone could get back to me about any additional TPM sounds they may have (especially interested in pod racer ones of good quality) then maybe we can use the drop box to store TPM sounds for anyone to access?

I think I am extremely close to doing my own TPM edit!

So, I played the PC version of this game extensively when I was younger. It was in fact the first video game I ever owned / played / finished, so it holds a special place in my heart.

I am struggling to remember about the dialogue.... I certainly remember that there were dialogue boxes with yellow (I think) letters, so I am wondering if that means that nothing was spoken.... Sorry, it's been so long for me. 14 years in fact, which just makes me feel ancient. Man where did the time go

May the Force be with you.

The dialogue was fully voiced (I remember so clearly, because it had the actual (in my case German) voice actors of the movie - mostly).

You either remember the (yellow) subtitles, or the dialogue choices.

There's spoken dialogue in the English versions as well, but I believe it's all done by imitators. Those files wouldn't be as useful for a fanedit as the dubbing could be jarring.

I am still a bit baffled as to where the dialog files are as they are not in the sound achieve.

Could it be that the dialog was on the video clips? If so this might explain why I can't access them.

I know I said I would upload the sound tonight but to be honest I have had a very long day filming and I find myself at 1:00 in the morning making a homemade lasagne.

So unless anybody knows were I can find the diolog on the game(other than in the audio folder) I shall upload the 162 WAV files I have tomorrow.....promise!

Ill post on here when they are on drop box then anybody who wants the link PM me.

So i have finally uploaded the sound files to drop box, except 4 files which kept on saying error. I will re-rip these at some point.

Unfortunately I still have had no joy getting the dialog which some of us vaguely remember being peppered throughout the game.....Maybe these are in the video files but haven't found a program to access them yet.

If anyone here would like the files I have uploaded them please pm me and I will send you the link.

hey, thanks for sharing your stuff :-)

I got a little collection of Star Wars games myself and tried so get hold on some cool soundbits in the past - not every program had a nice clean directory with the desired files ...

If one needs just one clip, I used to record it by hand, but if more is interesting, then you should seek for "decompilers", or better search the modding forums, they are some great resources for soundfiles ;-)

maybe I will rip some files in the future, but in the meantime got to much other stuff to handle, therefore only idea tossing for new cuts/edits ...

dropbox seems nice enough, no taking down because of legal issues could arise or whatsoever

Sorry I may be being dense here but what are the modding forums you refer to?

last time I searched for some good files, in my case for "Knights of the Old Republic", this site was very helpful:

http://www.lucasforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=324

I am sure, there are experts there, who can extract audio files from games, or know where to look for the needed files ;-)

possible infos could also be here:

http://knightsoftheoldrepublic.filefront.com/

maybe here too:

http://www.moddb.com/mods

and if you can read german, some folks have nice tipps here:

I see from your MySpleen post that this doesn't include any dialogue.  Do you know if there is any way to extract that?  That would be my personal highlight from this project.  In any case, good work on extracting the music.  It sounds like something worth giving a whirl.
