I'm almost done with this, but I'm having a serious audio drift problem. See this thread:

...for more info.

It's done! Took me a while to overcome the drift problem (the original DVD with the dolphin scene was cut in 30i, not 24p, so there were field errors), but it's all set now! No fancy-pants special features or menus, but you can find those on the other Ace DVDs--this one is PURE, EXTENDED, CONTENT.

The one thing I'd like to include is a nice DVD cover and print label. Any photoshoppers out there up to the task? I'd like to take the original cover:

"ACE VENTURA
PET DETECTIVE
To serve and protect...
...your pets"

and change it to:

"HEINZ GEZWELLWERT
TRAINER OF DOLPHIN
To train ze dolphin...
...you must zink like ze dolphin"

Also, it would be nice to have a dolphin nipping at his leg instead of the dog. This, obviously, is a nod to the added dolphin trainer scene.

Awesome! I'm sure this will out-do the shoddy composite version I did a couple years back. Can't wait to see it.

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for all the support! I found a scene on youtube that shows the theatrical version of the "dolphin trainer" sequence (fast forward to the end):

My cut has a LOT more material than that!

I Can't wait until this "PURE, EXTENDED, CONTENT" is ready for "public consumption" !!!!!!

Well, I've got a little preview here of my cover. It's not finished, and yes there are two different ideas as for how to display the fact that it's an 'extended' cut. Any input would be great. Ignore the back (just a scan of the R1 cover), it's the text on the card and the dolphin you need to pay attention to, I think.

Here's a little 3d preview for the people who like these:

And here's a larger version of the front 'poster':

MY JAW JUST DROPPED.

I think it looks great! I think I prefer the "PURE EXTENDED CONTENT" that isn't in the yellow splash, but I could go either way. Wow.

WOW.

Thanks. I'm finally happy with the business card. You have no idea how much of a pain getting that Heinz Gezwellwert to fit was, and in that specific sort of arched shape too.

More painful than that was the dolphin image. It took so long to find one that suited the position/angle of the dog from the original poster.

Anyway, I'll work on it some more soon. If you have a blurb for the back cover or specs and stuff specific to this edit (screencaps?) that you want me to use, then I can start work on the back. :)

I can't believe you fit it in so cleanly.

I'm not too good with words... I'm thinking and the only points I can come up with are that:

1) The current in-print DVD is the theatrical cut, which is missing a bunch of scenes
2) This one's chock full of 'em!

I hope someone has something more eloquent or thematically appropriate... worst case scenario, we could steal from the original DVD cover.

This is my first post on the forum, yay!

As a big Jim Carrey fan I really have high hopes for this project!! :D
I really like the sound of including all the deleted scenes, so I can't wait for this to be finished. I actually wanted to reply to this thread for a long time, but there was a problem with registering to the forum.

Anyway, I really want to help with this release, so I'm gonna try my best at a back cover for the release! I'm still thinking of a conversion of the retail cover though, but I'll post a preview ASAP!

Cheers,
BigFood

Here's a preview of the back and spine I was thinking of...
I still need to add synopsis, stills and credits to the back, but you'll get the general idea.

EDIT: The light blue border is from imageshack and isn't supposed to be around the cover...

BigFood, do you intend to:
* do your own front too (ie, a whole cover of your own)
* convert the retail by adding this spine and back to the retail front
* combine my front cover with your back cover (a joint production i guess)

I just like that layout and with all the things that are going on I'm finding it hard to get the time and creativity I need to work on my back cover.

@klokwerk:
I was actually thinking of a 'joint production'. I really like what you did with the front. I'd like to know though what are the exact dimensions of you front? It should be 1535x2175 pixels.

But I guess I could do multiple versions for this edit. Let me know what you think klokwerk!

@mcfly89:
Do you have an idea for the synopsis for this edition? I can come up with something myself, but it's your edit. Perhaps you want to tell something special.

This Pure Extended Edition of Ace Ventura: Pet Detective brings you Heinz Gezwellwert: Trainer of Dolphin, with even more Ace to enjoy. ,,More Ace?” you say. Aaaalllrighty then! This fan edit puts back all deleted scenes which didn’t make the official DVD release. Enjoy this pure extended edition of Ace Ventura: Pet Detective. Take care now, bye bye then!

And here's a preview of the back cover and spine.

BigFood, that looks great. Better than I thought it would. :)

If you send me the psd and/or a HQ jpg file of that back/spine at full-res I'll combine it with my cover. Only thing is, can we do anything with the dead space at the top? Perhaps but the card I did for the front cover there? I dunno, just looks empty.

I want to get the cover done so we push mcfly89 to release this! It's been ages since I watched Pet Detective (I recently re-watched When Nature Calls and have been playing the score to that film in the background when I was working on the DVD cover).

Thanks klokwerk!

I like the way it turned out as well. I've put our names in the credits by the way (alphabetically). I hope that's alright with you?

Did you receive the e-mail I send you? I asked you the same question about sending me your front design, haha. But either way is fine by me. I think it would be better though if the PURE EXTENDED CONTENT matches the font on the spine and back, don't you? I could send you the font if you want?

About the empty space on the top. I've tried several things, but none seemed to look nice. Perhaps a tagline would be better. Like 'To train ze dolphin... you must zink like ze dolphin.'
I think the full card looks too busy. I've tried that already. I'll just place the tagline there and post a new preview.

Oh and I'll see if I can make a nice looking label to go with the cover.

@klokwerk: The final cover has to be 3240x2175 pixels. I'm not sure if you are familiar with the cover dimensions, but these are the correct ones.

Silly as it may be, that is the official way to quote something (here in Holland anyway).
But if anyone else has a problem with it, I'll change it...?
