Info Wanted: What is considered by most fans to be the best edit of the Prequels? — Page 4

Yes that’s the scene. And about the balcony scene, it’s awkward and feels forced happiness. In Hal’s edit he has in my opinion very unique structure where he sets up anakins problems with the Jedi and their code first. Then he lets you know about Anakins trouble with his visions of Padme. And L8wtr keeping the Anakin/yoda Jedi temple scene and Anakin telling padme about his nightmare is something I dislike in his edit. When Anakin keeps these issues to himself it allows for a much more subtle and tragic fall. Don’t get me wrong though, I still find this edit very well done and I am keenly waiting for his V2. Just curious of what people like best in their episode 3 edits.

Here’s something I love about L8wrtr’s Ep3. He moved the opera scene way up, so that Palps plants his ideas much earlier. Then when Anakin goes to Yoda for advice, and Yoda basically tells him to grow up, you can see Anakin thinking “screw that, Palps actually wants to help.”

Unfortunately L8 has cut the entire Opera entrance. Hal left it but has cut the corridor shot. I don’t know why: the theatrical version of the Opera entrance is good.

You really have some peculiar complaints.

Just to be sure: are you supposed to be some kind of moderator or something like that around ?

I don’t think moderators are here to regulate our opinions.

Anyways for my own preference I splice together multiple fanedits. For ep1 I use Q2s as a base and splice in Hals to remove gungan city, to restore the sidious scenes, and flesh out parts of Q2s that move a bit too fast.
For ep2 I just use q2 for the most part.
For 3 I switch between Hal and l8.

Well just imagine if somebody tried to eat a stake. Chaos. Anarchy. Less vampires. I like the last one!

I use L8wtr for almost all of it, I just splice in Hal’s for a couple of scenes that I feel that L8wtr’s cutting is a bit too choppy and not seamless. I keep the order of things as they are in L8wtr’s, I just splice in some specific scenes from Hal’s for occasions when they are jarring audio cuts. (I use Hal’s V3 since the video quality matches better that way, even if his V4 looks better…)

Interesting. I do agree that Hal’s editing is a more seamless experience. Have you read up on the shroud of the dark side radical TPM edit in the works. It looks amazing. And why do you like the sidious scenes in TPM. When his scenes are cut I feel like it makes Mauls appearance on Tatooine such a cool surprise and your left with such a better mystery at the end when Yoda comments on the Rule of Two

I feel like sidious lines and Ian’s performance as the emperor give the film some much needed… Well… “Menacing” tone. I don’t care for radical edits I don’t have a problem with the story of the prequels I just like The fat and bad acting/dialogue trimmed up.

I don’t remember any of the sloppy cuts you guys keep talking about.

-Transition from “plot to destroy the Jedi” to Anakin granted seat on the council scene is quite bad. It halts musically and then the audio suddenly kicks back in.
-The musical transitions during Yodas confrontation with Sidious stand out like a sore thumb.
-And more of a scene reordering critique is something I found with the edit. Anakin practically has 2 motivations to join the dark side… Those being his distrust in the Jedi Council and their code and saving padme. Now I don’t know if you agree here but I feel as if throughout the Clone Wars series (2008) and the intense focus on the Jedi Code (no attachments) in the prequel films themselves it promotes those things being Anakins core beef with the Jedi. Padme in risk of dying was just the very last straw when Anakin was emotionally vulnerable to Palpatines manipulation. Palpatines channels Anakins frustration as fuel to his ever present gripe with the Jedis teachings. The reason I explain all of that is because in Hal’s edits he masterfully, seamlessly orders Anakins political/Jedi issues first and then he geniusly pairs Anakins nightmare with the Opera scene directly following. This grand scheme displayed in Hal’s edit is beautifully done to bring out the hidden glory of Revenge of the Sith. Contrary to this as I’m watching L8wtrs DOTE it constantly is switching between Anakin having a nightmare, then political talk with obi wan, then back to the padme at risk storyline with the opera scene etc. on and on this goes with scenes that all feel very disconnected.

That is my pretty thorough consensus of what prevents me from liking L8wtrs edit more than I already do.

None of them were all that terrible. And they weren’t video they were all audio cuts that were very noticeable, whereas with Hals they weren’t noticeable unless you knew about them. Some of L8wtrs audio cuts were jarring.

I just watched it about a month ago and I don’t remember any of these problems. Furthermore, we have pretty rigorous standards at FE and I doubt this one would even be listed at IFDb if it had these problems.

Pretty much yes. completely, no. And seeing as there are more than one of us who think it about this particular edit but notHals…
