Info Wanted: Return of the Ewok commentary.avi (in ocp's RotJ dvd-rom - how to play?)

Can anyone get the audio playing in this thing? Windows Media Player 10 tries to download a cedec and can’t, so it only plays the video. Most other players I’ve tried won’t play anything. I’ve downloaded various codecs, but nothing works.

Hey Mario,

VLC Player will play nigh on anything you throw at it - the world's best IMHO, codecs be damned !

VLC Player

I tried that too and to quote "Rick" from the myspleen comments section of RotJ classic "I am having problems trying to get the commentary .avi of ROTE to run in Media Player Classic. All it comes up with "Cannot render any of the streams" and does not attempt to download any codecs. The regular .avi of ROTE works fine, but not the commentary version. I would suspect that both files should have been encoded in exactly the same fashion, however MPC just won't play ball.

Can someone tell me if there is some odd quirk with the commentary .avi and what I need to do to get it running? Many thanks."

I have the exact same problem.

I gotta go with meedermow on VLC. I encoded the non-commentary version of ROTE for ocpmovie with Handbrake on OS X. He put together the commentary version. VLC will play both flawlessly. I would recommend staying away from the crap that is WMP. Of course, I say that about anything with Windows in the name. Seriously though, VLC is IMHO the best video player out there. It plays virtually anything. The fact that it is platform agnostic only enhances its supremacy.

You can go about your business. Move along, move along.

I have an annoying problem of, if I seek forward or backward through a video too many times or every couple of times that I pause a video I the speakers pop-and-crackle loudly in each one for 10-or-so seconds before the sound comes back to normal. I've only got the Combined Community Codec Pack and that's been on here for a while, I have no idea what has caused this problem - it's very recent.
