I had a crush on Ariel as a child. I rented The Little Mermaid every time my family visited the video store. These days I own the DVD, but to watch a VHS rip would probably bring tears to my eyes.
Let’s discuss non-Star Wars VHS preservation projects here.
A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.
I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

Good idea! Let's talk about your preservation of the 82 rental tape :)
You have the really good Panasonic AG-1980 VCR, I can't wait to see how good this awesome cassette will look.

I can do a quick-and-dirty Panasonic AG-1980 =(s-video)=> Panasonic DMR-ES10 DVD recording this weekend, if you'd like.

I have on my priorities a proper preservation of my 1989 EP mode tape of Aesop's Fables, the English version scripted by Peter Fernandez. I did a shitty capture in 2012 with a low grade capture card, which can be viewed here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IwAEDNC4KLM
So, a new book came out and we learned so much, and it is called, “Anguilosaurus, Killer of the Living”.

I would love to see a such thing! Sorry by the way, I didn't see it was a non-SW thread at first...

Personally, I'd like to see preservation of "Splash Too", a movie to this day is not officially released on DVD (as far as I know).
Currently enjoying Disney Infinity 3.0

Great idea for a thread. I also now have the Pal equivalent to the AG 1980, I love this machine already.
Capture card reccomendations? I'm stuck at DV now, which is fine, but I'm aware of limitations of the format in regard to colorspace.
As soon as I have my pc back up and running, I'd love to do a couple of tape transfers, and it would be nice to do a "done once and done right" kind of deal.
I mention Disney because Disney is big around these parts. But let me know if you want other suggestions.

Panasonic NV FS200. Is.. is that incorrect, Moth3r?
PAL DV is 4:2:0 like DVD, so you don't really have to worry about the color space if that is your destination format. There is a difference in chroma "siting" (where the samples are taken from with respect to luma) but chroma on VHS is so hilariously bad that there's no way it makes a visible difference. Perhaps with some 4:4:4 input source a difference could be discerned but I haven't seen it discussed.

I've no idea, just interested.
I know that for VHS, Panasonic and JVC are the leading brands.
I have a JVC SR-S388e, it's a fairly solid semi-pro deck but the built-in TBC sometimes has problems with Macrovision-protected tapes. I did a cap of a PAL tape recently for drngr and the image was jumping all over the place.
Before that, the last cap I did was a tape of my late gran receiving her MBE at Buckingham Palace (which was also Macrovison protected - wonder if I was committing high treason by copying it?). Did a 3-cap median to remove drop outs and it came out pretty nice.

Sorry, Moth3r, I must've been influenced by your avatar. And somehow I was convinced you already had one.
I've been testing it with a couple of tapes, in the meantime, and I think I found a little problem. Nothing major, but it's a bit disappointing.
In the rear panel, there's a switch near the AV1 scart: it has 3 positions,
Test outputs a patter for the Rf connection, and I'm not using that. The other two options are supposed to change the output in the scart connector. Normal should be composite, if I'm not mistaken, and it works correctly. When I set it to S-Video, however, all I get is luma.
There's another S-Video output, and I haven't tried it yet. Hopefully it works.

Why would you have a crush on an animated character? That confuses me. Question marks all over my head now!
Ariel and Jessica Rabbit are the reason I prefer redheads over blondes and brunettes ;)
