If they had his identity.

No one will take any legal action against him, because it would be dumb. Bad PR. He has publicity, and post like "sorry had to delete everything, Disney is after me" would generate shitstorm.

I don't quite agree with your optimism. Poking Disney isn't the same as poking Lucasfilm, even though there probably is considerable good will on Disney's side if they still haven't nuked this forum. Also, it's probably not difficult to find out who the guy is. There's a name in the youtube channel, for one thing.

polished up the interlace issues that you get when converting most laserdiscs

Does this mean that he IVTC'd?

I hope he didn't deinterlace it...

A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.

I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

Is there a chance we could get a version not re-encoded by youtube? I'm pretty sure the faneditors would appreciate that as well.

...okay.  If this is his real name, I take it back.

That's his name. And his likeness. And the region he lives in. And his admission of posting the videos online. Everything a growing lawyer needs ;)

That's what I tried to find out...and was banned. Apparently the person who won it thought that the youtube encoding was good enough.

It's good enough for casual viewing, sure, but I feel that for the sake of proper preservation (that's just my arbitrary definition of "proper" which may be dumb, I don't know. I also understand that he may not be interested in what I consider "proper" preservation. I'm not being an ungrateful bastard here, is what I'm trying to say. Thanks for the footage, dude) youtube is insufficient.

I guess i need to post this again:

You know that these were quick and dirty captures, with a lot of problems and they are not very good quality. There isn't much point in providing a download link when the quality wouldn't be very different from a youtube download anyway. Once the proper captures are done then a full quality download link will be provided for everyone.

Yeah, this has become very big news. I've had friends who don't even care about Star Wars tell me that they heard it from different big news sources. They were even talking about it on the Free Beer and Hot Wings radio show.

I don't think too many people will be interested in a preservation of this crappy preview clip when they release the Real Deal later on down the line ;)

The disclaimer in the video made me think that THIS is the "real deal". If it's not then great.

Exactly. The person who bought it never alluded to there being a different release. He said that the YouTube was good enough and that it didn't recompress.

I've only been reading here, where it's relatively safe to talk secretly, and not on the Facebook page, where it's dangerous to say very much.

Okay, we get it, he pissed you off. He may have even been rude.

But really, he didn't have to release a single thing, could have kept it completely to himself.

I think it is sometimes forgotten here that no-one 'owes' anyone anything, if someone wants to buy a rare movie or disc and video themselves eating it, that is their pergogative.

Anyone here could have ponied up the $700 themselves if they thought it was important enough.

It has been stated multiple times here that a high quality capture will be made, that it is not easy to do due to the state of the disc, and that it will be shared for *free* when it is done. I think that is a pretty good deal that someone spent $700+ of their own cash and is going to share it with everyone for nothing. All one has to do is wait.

And as for the risk of Disney coming after him, well, that is his risk to take.

And if anyone thinks this forum is 'quiet' and not followed by Disney and before that by Lucasfilm, I can tell you first-hand that you are rather mistaken. I have two letters that proves that these forums are closely monitored :)

Also, the disc would technically belong to Avid, not Disney, and the use of the sequences on the disc would also belong to Avid as 'promotional material'.

It is highly unlikely Avid would give a hoot.

Here's the thing: I've never said that he SHOULD or that we DESERVE to get this. In fact, I'm pretty pissed off that it fell into such irresponsible and fame-seeking hands.

And, since you brought it up, had I known about it, I would have dropped a helluva lot more than $700 on that disc. I've spent a lot more on a lot less. It is easily worth 3 to 4 times that amount. Had the seller known what he had, he could have taken care of this Christmas AND next Christmas.

Although you state that it will be shared, that is not what the original purchaser said. Unfortunately, I'm going to go with what HE has publicly stated until I have reason to believe otherwise.

But...C'est la vie...

I said "relatively" safe, as in, relative to Facebook ;) Compared to that, we're pretty quiet.
