that seems a little, i won't beat around the bush. i don't like it.

It would be helpful if you beat around the bush a little bit.

What don't you like about it, the idea, the execution (and if so what about the execution)?

i don't mean to offend u at all, it just seems off for endor. i understand wat ur saying with the ewoks and all, but i just can't see them making idle carvings.

You didn't offend me I assure you, I just sought clarification.

Most forest dwelling tribal societies have some form of artistic expression and they worship Threepio so they must have a spiritual sense and it is theistic to some degree because they think he is "some kind of god".

They decorate themselves with bones (they are prepared to eat their enemies and even the friends of their sort of deity) they seem to respect warriors (they were going to eat Luke, Han and Chewie who gave up without a fight but didn't eat Leia who shot a couple of Imperials). And they have an oral tradition so no writing which would suggest pictographic art might be a feature.

It just depends on what level of and style of expression you think this culture would employ.

Bingowings, I like your reasoning behind those great pictures you made. I think something like this should be done. Anything to help give more life and character to the ewoks! (face it people...they *can't* be cut out of the movie) :D

The sillyness detracted from any fun (as did the lack of internal logic) it wasn't a comedy like Mars Attacks!, Ghostbusters or Men In Black  (all much better films) it wasn't so bad it was good like Plan Nine From Outer Space, it was a jingoistic gung-ho bit of pseudo-patrotic sentiment pretending to be escapist science fiction.

In short it was Mars Attacks! without the jokes or Starship Troopers without the internal logic and satire (now that too is a much better film even if it isn't as good as the book).

So I guess this means you hate just about every 50's sci-fi movie made in America then?  >:)

To each their own.  I love it; it's about as serious and melodramatic as TOWERING INFERNO or George Pal's WAR OF THE WORLDS.  While I can enjoy STARSHIP TROOPERS for what it is, even semi-serious it is not (so when do spaceships run into fireballs coming up at them?  or land troops on a planet just to pick them up and leave immediately afterwards?)

Regardless, what can be done with EMPIRE and JEDI I wonder?  Now if someone created a thread so we could post ideas on what could be added or enhanced....

I heard a rumour someone already made something like that (I wonder where it could be?) ;-)

hard to see the dark side is...

but, yea, i'd say not to make them so big. especially when the cast walks right by them without even taking a second glance at the big wood statue.

The giant lizard statue isn't that much different from the ruins of Yavin IV, the moon could have been occupied and isn't anymore or the natives might be harmless.

The giant Ewok idol is an in joke, the Rebels frequently wander into dangerous situations without checking out the lay of the land often after ignoring what a droid is telling them (the detention centre on the Death Star, the hyperdrive on the Falcon, the trapdoor to the Rancor pit, a few minutes before that mockup they assume there are only two biker scouts when there are more and after they trigger an obvious trap).

But I will see if there is a better place to hide the teddy bear (remember though that these are mock-ups of ideas not final shots).

I like the idea of the bigger carving. Just as long as it translates well to the audeince in passing.

Maybe rather than having huge carvings standing out (that no one seems to notice) you could have carvings on the tree trunks ala totem poles; that way they can blend a bit with the trees, explaining why the cast may not react to them, as well as give us audience members something subtle to notice...

I don't care for the carvings idea.  I like that there are no signs of habitation of Endor until they are captured.  I'd like to think the Empire didn't even know it was habitated.

Yeah if the empire knew their were ewoks they would have killed them all. Its the shear fact that the empire doesnt know they are there and are suprised by their fighting skills that gives the whole forrest battle more Believeablity

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

Some ruins or Totems isnt a bad idea because it creates a feeling of the unpredictable and menace.

That none of the characters react to.  That's one of the problems.

One could conceivably create a new scene, or intercut a few shots, of the characters reacting. Mid shot of totem — shot of Leia looking wary — close-up of carving — shot of Chewie perhaps, maybe with a low growl, or of Luke — shot of another totem or something — shot of 3PO with corresponding soundbite (to match "I told you it was dangerous here" later on, Anthony Daniels has done so much 3PO stuff I'm sure we could find something) — that's pretty much all we'd need. Three is the golden number in storytelling, and we could even intercut the three pairs of shots into a longer scene. They'd only have to be a second or two long, and there's enough Endor material to make it feasible for a skilled editor without sacrificing too much elsewhere in the film.

Executor Bridge! How wonderful :)

Pity i cant say the same for ROTJ version of it.

Based on ESB matte-set then:

I post that in some big rez to see some details or what.

I hate dead blacks...

Does it matter that I see the Studio Set instead of space?

what if (to be super extravigant) after the a wing hits the bridge, you see imperial officers being sucked out of the bridge into space, which then moves into an extablishing shot of the battle....(ok ive been watching too much star trek.:P)

Or Battlestar Galactica (when that show was on...sob....people were spaced almost every week) plenty of elements to be pulled, altered and placed in there.

So the Executor bridge in RotJ uses the pit setup from the Avenger set?  What a lack of continuity!

Beautiful mockups, as usual Angel.

Vaderios, I love the breaking glass idea in the explosion mockup. I hope Ady uses that!
