I remember Venal's shot for that and loved it. It is a great idea. It also gives some distinction to Jabba's surroundings.

..... As I was saying,

I tried to post last night. I've been getting rides because I don't have a pick up truck, so I tried to turn in early.

Anyway, the Yoda-Luke-Ben-Luke talkfest  always seemed too long. Ben-Luke is repeating and elaborating upon Yoda's exposition. Also, I've thought that the "Twins" reveal came too early. The 3PO "Toss out some key names and pretend your telling an epic tale" bit was a snag for me, as well.

My thought was to interweave the Ben-Luke tale with 3PO's tale to create the impression that two epic sagas are being told concurrently. After viewing the scenes carefully and seeing the Ben's hovel 005 blog idea, I think this might be adapted to a fan-edit.

Yoda-Luke might be cut after "I can't do it Artoo." 'Luke ducking out of the hut' might be moved to before the start of 3PO's tale. "I can't go on alone." might be inserted outside the hut. Luke might duck underneath a branch ( Fighter-cannon) or stay on Ben and cut out Luke's duck. Then back and forth between Ben-Luke and 3PO. I suspect that 'Mixed emotions' was the idea for Leia-Luke at the fleet, after watching it slo-mo. I don't suppose moving all that to Endor would be an easy trick.

For extra credit: Cut out the "Sister" bits. Make it just "Your twin" and make it uncertain whether Luke knows the identity of his twin. Find a way to transition Luke and Leia to sitting while cutting out all the 'Sister' bits there. Then just cut out at "Hey, what's..." and cut back in as Han passes Leia's head (?). Replace "come on, tell me" with "Hey, what's..." Then cut out "I can't..." and shorten Leia's choking on words. Then "But you could..." Then change Vader's lines to suggest that he senses the truth and might be revealing to Luke that Leia is his sister. Then find a way to insert "Like" "Luke is... my brother." and shorten Han's reaction. It's sort of a climactic revelation.

'Color-correction' will have to wait. I'm going to pretend I can fall asleep. :)

I like the idea of Jabba's palace being within an oasis or even a jungle-ish environment.  It would almost be a throw-back to RAIDERS, seeing Luke and/or 3PO working their way through a jungle to come out in front of the gates to Jabba's palace.

It would make sense to be building the DS near a rich natural resource, which Endor could well be, so that sounds like a good idea.

That would also add some motivation as to why the Ewoks would be fighting/sniping the Imperials (not to mention it would add a layer of social commentary to a fairly straight-forward film).

Maybe scenes from EMERALD FOREST could be used?

Let's get back to that Pandora... I mean Endor idea.

this is a small detail....but it always bothered me that the b-wings at the begining of the space battle in ROTJ were only in a couple of establishing shots and not in more of the actual battle....perhaps Adywan could fix this....

I think the final space battle needs more characters.

I'm going to film and insert myself as a B-Wing pilot named (in grand Lucas tradition) Pimpinist Askiqer. I'll be wearing sunglasses to be cool. My call sign will be "Platinum Leader"

I'll buy a ticket to see that...but only if it's IN 3-D!!!!!!!!!!!

What about the hatch on the top of the falcon when Lando rescues Luke from underneath cloud city......it was "fixed" in one of Lucas' toyings with the movie, but never looked right IMHO.....

I think he's talking about the three hatches that Lando goes up on his extraordinarily long quest to the top of the Falcon. I'd rather just have the bright light replaced with the bottom of Cloud City somehow.

Yeah I know, i just thought I'd post that wee pic.

It does seem like he's making his way through the width of the Falcon...hatch after hatch:)

I dont mind him going through multiple hatches, its the light outside that first hatch.....GL apparently didnt like it either, but instead of putting in the work to take out the effect of the light and painting in the underside of cloud city, he put in another hatch and made it look like there was a ring of lights on the inner wall of the falcon's hatch.....it was just clumsy and looks even worse than the original did

Some tests of JUST the glow removal.

Notes:

  • some parts are looking darker. This is might needs a more extensive work or Background replacement. I was limited with PS.
  • No additional roto on top.
  • I left in purpose 15% of the original layer so you can see some color.

Glow removal um pa tum!

Cleanup in motion.

FREAKING AWESOME

With proper CC and glows added this will be great. The sabers in ROTJ are a horrible, horrible mess.

Now that was refreshing to see. Amazing work Angel.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas
