Hi all,

The television series “The Paper Chase” was one of my dad’s all time favorites, but it is not available on dvd and will probably never be released. That being said, I have found three websites that sell it (mostly likely tv rips or something) on dvd-r’s. I was thinking about getting this for my dad for his upcoming birthday.

So, can anyone vouch for the reliability / quality / won’t abuse my credit card / will actually send the product to me, of any of the following sites: ***********.com, *********.tv, or ***************.tv? [Removed names of websites selling bootlegs - M]

Any help anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated.

It most likely would be a "real present" if it's something his father really likes.

That being said, Brikhaus, you're probably going to have to bite the bullet and pick one of the sites (eenie, minie, moe!)

MeBeJedi: Sadly, I believe the prequels are beyond repair.
JediRandy: They’re certainly beyond any repair you’re capable of making.

MeBeJedi: You aren’t one of us.
Go-Mer-Tonic: I can’t say I find that very disappointing.

JediRandy: I won’t suck as much as a fan edit.

Anyone can buy clothing or gift certificates. But actually seeking out something that they will really enjoy is a much better gift. And the cost means nothing in my opinion. It shows he wants to get him something rather than he "has to".

Thanks for the responses guys. And after having thought it over, I don't think I'll be getting this. My first thought was that it would be ok, since these sites were advertising on Google, and it was a tv show that will probably never see an official release. But then I realized that if they are selling bootlegs of other stuff, too, then I shouldn't be trusting them with my money anyway.

I think that's a very wise move, BrikHaus81 !

RIJIR - I think Moth3r's point was more to the fact that those sites are/were (presumably) advertising bootlegs for sale - which isn't in keeping with the nature of this board (wherebe DarkFox when you need him !), I agree with your sentiments though.

That's correct.

I really don't care if he buys his dad a bootleg DVD, his brother a fake Rolex and his mum a counterfeit handbag. Forum rule No. 2 says:
Do not advertise sites that offer bootlegs for sale. Do not link to such sites or direct users to them.

The rules are currently under revision, but this one is pretty clear already.

BrikHaus, if you want to make a new thread (hopefully with a more helpful title) about the possibility of a preservation project for this TV show, please go ahead. But let's not discuss the sale of bootlegs.
