No thanks.
I thought the movie wasn’t great, but wasn’t terrible either. However, I think that by trimming off some of the fat, this film can truly become a great Indy story that can stand alongside the trilogy.
Sorry KOTCS, you will always be Extra Indy, not Essential Indy, regardless of how much fun I have with that movie.
For starters:
I’d love to hear what other suggestions people have for this film!
The Skywalker Saga:
I · II · III · IV · V · VI · VII · VIII · IX
This is the way.
No thanks.
Good ideas. I still haven’t seen the official film though.
It may never be A+ Indy, but I do think we can take it from C Indy to B/B+ Indy and that would be perfectly fine.
Thought that I had that I didn’t want to lose…

I really will be looking forward to this. Cleaning up the de-aging scenes and adjusting Indy’s voice to reflect his age in WWII would be worth the edit alone. Also, trimming the length of time Indy is dangling from the hangman’s noose also is on my wish list. I would cut the clip of Indy running across the train at the beginning of the film; it looks really wonky. Also, some of the shots of old Indy on the horse in NYC look super fake. I think trimming the auction scene and tuk tuk car chase too. I’d have to see the film again, but this is some things off the top of my head.
Just to note, I don’t have the editing experience to complete this edit, but would love to see one of the awesome faneditors here take a project like this on!

Have no doubt there’ll be edits here:
I’ll be keen to give this a look too. The less Helena the better!
“Did you know, the word ‘gullible’ is not in the dictionary?! Look it up.”
Yes, I’ve been waiting for this! I was sitting in theatre thinking about how easily this film can go from a 6 or so to a solid 7 with some really simple edits (mostly just editing down the film to a little under 2 hours like the other Indy films).
Although it’s a fairly effective scene at showing how evil the villains are, I don’t think it’s all too necessary to show them shooting the librarian(s). You can just have Indy get freaked out over the bodies as he escapes. Best advice I can give really follows that in general, keep the focus on Indy’s perspective.
I wish you the best of luck and I cannot wait to see what comes of this!!
Having just watched the film last night and knowing about the advancements when it comes to AI voice replacement/replicas, I would love to see a fan edit that makes Young Indy at the beginning actually sound like 1980’s Harrison Ford instead of Old Man Harrison Ford. I think that’s one of the many reasons why I absolutely loathe that beginning sequence so much and I feel like doing that (plus maybe adding some grain and other effects to lessen the digital uncanny valley sheen of everything) would help to make the sequence at least somewhat tolerable to me.
Currently trying to finish up my Raiders extended version, but I do plan to do an exit of Dial like my other 4 Indy movies. Here is what I had planned as far as a shot list. The AI voice fix is already done as someone on Youtube took a start at it and I added some more, but the other I need to find time to go after. It might be a while though as I need to get back on my extended Empire strikes back version 1 that has been like 90% done for awhile.
• Paramount peak/logo transition at the start added back in to be consistent with the franchise
• Fixing audio sync issues and old Harrison voice in some spots so it’s not an 80 year old voice with a ~45 year old Indy as well as mouth not moving in some spots to the voice for the CG in the beginning
• “1944, Franch” title added to intro to be consistent with every other Indy start. Also adding in “New York, 1969” since the movie is literally moving to this time (for the intro) and it was done this way for Crusade.
• Editing a shot away from Indy after he punches the driver of the car, so he hides the body under the car off screen and we return to him sitting there inside before the officer comes in the back. This allows more time for officers to get into car and not see the Indy ragging the driver out of the way on the ground or whatever he had to do.
• Fix CG when punched on the train. I am sure there are more, but that was the one I notice the most
• Slower Indy running on the train. Or reduce the scene so he is not so fake looking here
• Adding a Starwars Visual easter egg somewhere in this film to be consistent with the other films
• Adding the last movie McGuffin easter egg somewhere in this film
• Tuk Tuk scene seemed to drag out, but will have to see the Bluray a 3rd time to see where take out is needed
• Possibly add the deleted shot. “Same for the God Daughter” when they are drinking in the new York Bar.
• My own personal rip of my copy did not grab the subtitles like in the theater at the end, but I kind of like no titles since no other Indy had it, so may just keep it this way, plus we never had it for the German speaking characters.
Any update on this project? I liked your change list. I hope it is still in the works!
Saw this hasn’t been updated in a bit - I have a Dial of Destiny edit over at fanedits if anyone is interested. Didn’t do AI voice for the flashback (honestly the voice didn’t really bother me that much) - but made a bunch of other cuts that I think most people are looking for.
