I don’t think he was saying it’s happening but was equating the premise of this thread with someone doing that.
On an unrelated note where did Trident and KillerQueen go?
Obviously anyone who is blowing up female posters inboxes with creepy stuff shouldn’t do so, but I feel like saying we “have” to encourage certain people to post is a bit odd as well.
Is that actually going on? And why is nobody telling a mod about it?

KillerQueen has unfortunately stopped posting for a while, but apparently she still checks to site on occasion according to the User Information page.
The Person in Question
As for this thread, I have no idea why it exists or how anyone could “encourage” women to post here. I suspect that the reason there are few women posters is because they don’t actually frequent the site, and not that they would love to join yet hate the community.

This.
I have no idea if it’s happening here, but it’s certainly something that happens in internet communities.

You’re all the diversity we need, friend.

This site doesn’t actively discourage anyone from participating. Why on Earth would we want to expend time and energy encouraging a certain section of society to join in? That’s like deliberately hiring a certain ethnicity for a job to “show diversity”, it makes no sense unless there is already some form of discrimination happening.
The site is easy to find and not connected to anything that discriminates. I’d guess that the majority find it through Star Wars, which is currently focussed more toward a female point of view.
It’s perfectly okay for groups of people who share similar pastimes to all share the same gender. Read any thread on this site and you’ll see there’s as many different viewpoints as you’d get from any random sampling of mixed gender discussion.
Not everything is lacking simply because it doesn’t feature all kinds of everything.
It may be that we’re doing certain things on this forum that are detracting women and girls.
Of course we are. We’re talkin’ the extremely nerdy minutia of Star Wars.

See, you’re already expressing biases here. That shouldn’t detract away users. There are plenty of women and girls who like Star Wars.
Plenty of girls post here. Possessed, for example.
Am I a pretty girl?
Uh, you’re…you’re beautiful–

There is an age limit for signing up here so what criteria are you using “women and girls” when you reference them as members?

I don’t like to use the term “female” sense it seems a bit clinical and cold. I want to include people of all age groups.

I don’t believe all age groups can be members due to the age limit.

Some people identify more with the term “girls” than “women.”

How many of those people are going to come to a forum, a rather dated website format, when you’d be more likely to be discussing it over at /r/StarWars, or hell, just with other people in person? The amount of anonymity that comes along with making an account here is enough reason to suggest that it doesn’t really matter who you are. You just need to hate the prequels, find ROTJ mediocre, and be repeatedly blown away by Dre’s algorithmic skills.

I don’t hate the prequels. They’re inferior to the OT but they aren’t awful.
I’d even rather watch HALS fanedit of TPM than the SE of ROTJ. One of these days I’ll finish my damn edit of rotj…

So why not female fans then. It doesn’t suggest a difference of age and it is gender specific. 😃
It seems that this idea and thread was ill-considered.
I suggest that it should be locked, since there seems to be no room for further discussion on the topic.

As I said earlier, I find the term “female” to be a bit too clinical for my tastes.

We have plenty of boys here so I don’t see the issue.

There is an age limit for a reason and the connotation of “boys and girls” over “men and women” could cause other issues. This is the internet, not the local summer school, and I would certainly not want to be affiliated with a place that could end up being harmful when the mix of adults and children on an internet forum happens.
Just my two cents.
