ew! I’m glad my kitchen isn’t that messy. It was nice of you to clean his kitchen for him. I hope things improve for your friend.

Thanks Warb. I’m really worried about him and a number of people around him. They are all going through a very dark time, your compassion is greatly appreciated.

I deactivated my Facebook account. I didn’t reconnect with any of the people I wanted to reconnect with, and aside from a whole load of worthless e-mail notifications and two friend invites from people I’ve never met, I got absolutely nothing out of the experience.

Social networking services are for the birds.

I only use Facebook to look at joke and shitposting pages. The website just isn’t laid out very well, IMO.

I find it surprisingly useful. When it started it was kind of fun. I could play scrabbulous with friends in other towns reconnect with former school and work mates but once the novelty had worn off I just used it to arrange my trips down south. When I started to look for work again about three years ago I needed references from former bosses and started using it again. I have lots of real world friends and family scattered across the globe so it’s sort of essential tech now. But it has its dangers. For example if you are surrounded by people of a like mind it can distort your view of public opinion. I got the results if the Scottish and Brexit referenda correct because I go out into the real world and listen to what people have to say but I know lots of people who only use social media to discuss such matters who were very shocked. I’m pretty outspoken on issues that I care about and this has caused ripples on the water. I have seen people with serious mental health problems use social media as a loud hailer to shout at other equally vulnerable people. I have some friends and family who are socially isolated because of illness and it helps them stay connected. So it can be good but it can be not good and it’s clearly not for everyone.

Very well-written. It’s definitely had a massive impact on society.

Facebook is annoying but at least you can reconnect with distant relatives and friends that post pictures and updates. There’s a lot of crap on there too but I find it helpful to reconnect with old friends and family. Twitter is absolutely useless on the other hand.

That’ll be the very short message service… figures 😄

When the sausage incident happened I gave the people who run Tesco a piece of my mind over Twitter… I don’t know if it helped us Veggies, Vegans, Jews and Muslims but they might take my comments into consideration.

I wasn’t aware it was Tescos fault your roommate bought the wrong can.

It continues to reveal Trump’s character, so it’s not completely useless.

The pork and beans and the veggie sausages and beans cans look almost identical and are right next to each other. I could see how the error could happen.

The #2 thing I hate about YouTube: all those videos deceptively tagged as feature-length movies but are really just advertisements for suspicious streaming sites. Instead of pulling down short clips and the like which should be protected under fair use, why doesn’t YouTube target these videos?

Agreed.

Similar: I was having an issue with my phone and tried to Googled for the issue. The title claimed that the video would show you how to fix it, but the video just showed the problem and nothing more.

Just to clarify he isn’t my room mate as we don’t live in a room and no longer even sleep in the same bed, it’s a complex relationship. But people shouldn’t be obliged to scrutinise every purchase especially if you have done so before. Similarly I shouldn’t have to scrutinise every item in the fridge after a fourteen year relationship where my one and only demand is no corpses in the fridge. In ASDA which I am boycotting because of their scare tactics during the Scottish Referendum their pork sausages are in a blue tin and are a significant distance away from the veggie sausages in a green tin. In Tescos both are in blue tins and right next to each other. It would be very easy to pick one up in error or for them to be jumbled up on the shelf in error they look almost identical. Lots of time and effort goes into store layout design. As a teen the worst job I ever had was working at 7Eleven. There the managers would gauge the angle of the crisp packets with a protractor to make sure the store was keeping to it’s franchise guidelines. It wouldn’t hurt Tescos to make the tins a different colour and position them in different locations on the shelf. Warb may find it amusing and I bare him no ill will for it but to people who make these sorts of decisions ethically, medically or because of religion it can be quite upsetting.

Or people who wanna stay connected (at least loosely) with the people in their lives.
Using it to connect with people who don’t like you isn’t really what it’s there for.

Also true.

Looks like the main water pipe to the house is broken, 'cause all we can get from the faucets is a trickle at best. That means we can’t take showers, can’t wash clothes, and can’t even fill the sink at an adequate pace to wash dishes.

I hate this fucking house.
