"I kill Gandalf." - Igor, Dork Tower
I heard a German Release of the Theatrical Version is announced for this year (09-29-2008).
Maybe it is better than the japanese Version.

As you can see the Cinematic Grindhouse Versions are very ugly.
I thought that look was intended by the directors, to give the impression of an out-of-focus, worn, faded and damaged print?

Never found a hint, that the much green and the unsharpness was wanted.
And, if it was wanted, why don't these effects apply to the DVD Extended Versions, like the other "damages" whicj are added into the movies?
So I don't think that the green, unsharp Picture quality was wanted.
I will see what the german Grindhouse will look like.. *sight* ..yes, I plan to buy it... even if I own the Us Extended Versions, the German limited Extended Versions (In Tin Boxes with some little Gadgets, like smelling Discs: Gasoline for Death Proof.. something other for Planet Terror, a BBQ receipt for Planet Terror, ...) and the 6 Disc japanese Box, already.

Or you could, you know, just wait until the American edition of the theatrical cut comes out.

The release of the german Grindhouse is.. well.. delayed. Maybe it won't come, because the Movie "Planet Terror" got "Indiziert" (German word) that is some soft kind of banned. It means the movie is not allowed to be put in stores where minors can see the case, its not allowed to place advertisemnt for this Movie in public places, where minor could see them. It is just allowed to be sold in adult only sections. And so it could get somewhat unprofitable for the releasing company. (Hey.. its soooo extreemly dangerous that a minor could even know that this movie exists.. so the minors mind could be damaged...)
I heard that the german Grindhouse Version should not be presented in the Cinematic aspect ratio, because it will get a new transfer (or something like that)

Here's 2 screen caps from the 720p HD version shown on Canada's Movie Central
The German DVD is now due out on 7 January 09, apparently.
It'll be interesting to see what the quality is like. I had a chance to compare the quality of the R2 Japanese Grindhouse theatrical and the R1 US Death Proof. The US version has the same scratched beat-up look, but in much better PQ. (The scratches are sharper!) :-)
(Top R2, bottom R1)

The Problem is, that Planet Terror got "indiziert" (no according english word known). It will not be selled in normal german stores. I will buy it if I see it somewhere. It was announced for October 2008 If I remember right, but after Planet Terror got "indiziert" It was delayed. I fear that the production studio will make a cuted version, to sell it in normal stores. I hope it will be uncut.
@Moth3r: I Allready postet 2 Links, where quality comparisons between the US Extended Disc, the German Extended Disc, the Japanese Extended and the japanese Grindhous Discs are. In Post 38
